cidiss.co, A Japanese investor represented by PT Prospec Energi Indonesia is interested in building a 15 megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Penajam Paser Utara district, East Kalimantan province.

“Representatives of the Japanese investor have already expressed a desire to build a 15 mega watt solar power plant,” Deputy Head of Penajam Paser Utara district, Mustaqim MZ said here on Friday.

Before investing in the development of the solar power plant, a Japanese investor will conduct a survey at the site of power plant development.

“We greatly appreciate the Japanese intention to invest in power plant development, and hope that the investment will be realized soon, so that the solar power plant can offer power supply to the region of Penajam Paser Utara,” he said.

He added that the Penajam Paser Utara district needs an addition of electric power capacity to support the regional system of electricity, because the region has often experienced electrical disturbances and blackouts.

“If the solar power plant is realized, we hope that it will help to supply electric power to the region of Penajam Paser Utara, so there will be no more electrical blackouts,” he pointed out.

The Penajam Paser Utara district government will fully support the investment for building the power plant, he said.

The government also hopes that cooperation will be established soon and that investment in the field of electricity will be realized.

A representative of the Japanese investor, Robby, who is from PT Prospec Energi Indonesia, offered foreign direct investment and said that the development of the solar power plant amounted to Rp40 billion to Rp45 billion, which required an area of 15 hectares.

“The development of the solar power plant is aimed especially at meeting the electricity needs of the industrial area of Buluminung and human settlements,” he stated.

Robby has asked the district government to help to provide the land to be purchased by investors, and to obtain a permit for the construction of solar power plant.

“We will survey the site to ensure that the development of the solar power plant can be realized,” he added.
