Norway Support Indonesia’s Green Development

solar cellThe government of Norway and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) pledged to support Indonesia’s program of green economic development through inclusive development program, sustainable and environmentally friendly.

“Norway will contribute in the form of a grant of US$19 million through the program, which has been carried out by GGGI and the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) since 2013,” GGGI director general Yvo de Boer here on Saturday.

An agreement was already signed on Monday (November 23) on the continuation of support for the green economic economic development after success in the first phase of the program.

Under the agreement support would be continued in financing projects in the second phase including investment in the sectors of renewable energy, special economic zone, forestry and utilization of other lands.

“We are motivated by the leadership shown by the government by choosing development of green economy to reach economic growth and to answer environmental and climate challenges faced by the Indonesian people,” Yvo de Boer said.

Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Stig Traavik, said green development will be the right solution to problem caused by forest and peat land fires.

GGGI and the government of Indonesia, through Bappenas and the ministry of the environment and forestry could continue development and strengthen green partnership between the people, the government and the business sectors. the ambassador said.

With the strong commitment of Indonesia, GGGI is motivated to continue support for Indonesia to boost green economic growth including in the energy sector, special economic zone, forest and land based mitigation.

The agreement on the program was signed by the Norwegian ambassador on behalf of the ministry for the environment the climate and the foreign ministry of Norway in Oslo.

Norway and Indonesia are members of GGGI.
