Jakarta – Currently, Indonesia has been appointed as the host for the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) FORUM 2023 High Level Conference (Summit) which will be held in Bali on October 11 2023. This activity will be attended by a number of member countries of the 2023 AIS Forum Summit. confirm his presence in the series of activities.

Organizing the 2023 Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum High Level Conference (Summit) will be Indonesia’s contribution as an initiator in dealing with global issues related to maritime affairs.

Assistant Deputy for Delimitation of Maritime Zones and Border Areas of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) Sora Lokita at a press conference held by Forum Merdeka Barat 9 (FMB 9) said that the AIS KKT could be a forum for Indonesia to contribute its thoughts regarding solutions to the challenges it faces. island and archipelagic countries.

Through cooperation between participating countries, dr. Abdul Wahib Situmorang (Ucok), Senior  Advisor for Climate and Environmental Governance , AIS Program Manager said that the AIS Forum aims to strengthen collaboration in overcoming global problems in four main areas, namely climate change mitigation and adaptation, blue economy, handling plastic waste in the sea, and good maritime governance. This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing resilience to climate change 

“AIS Forum is a unique platform that brings together island and archipelagic countries from various regions. “Our goal is to encourage collaborative action and overcome the common challenges faced by these countries in overcoming global problems in four main areas,” said Abdul.

Furthermore, Abdul explained that the AIS Forum is expected to be able to overcome the problem of  marine plastic debris  or marine plastic waste. This forum seeks to reduce and prevent plastic pollution in the sea by raising awareness, reducing the use of single-use plastic, and managing plastic waste wisely.
