Indonesia’s Readiness at the Historical Moment of Collaboration between Island Countries at the 2023 AIS Forum
Bali – Indonesia, as host of the Archipelagic and Islands States (AIS) Forum 2023, has prepared itself to repeat its achievement of being the center of world attention at this historic moment. This forum, which will be the first for archipelagic countries, will provide a forum for archipelagic countries to address various important issues, and Indonesia is ready to take the lead in this collaborative effort.
As the largest archipelagic country in the world, Indonesia has a strong interest in ensuring healthy and sustainable oceans in this region. President Joko Widodo has appointed the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, as Chair of the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, indicating Indonesia’s serious commitment to this forum.
A number of island and archipelagic countries will participate in the first AIS Forum Summit on 11 October 2023 in Bali. Assistant Deputy for Delimitation of Maritime Zones and Border Areas at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sora Lokita, expressed the target of the AIS Forum Summit, namely as a forum for aspirations and hopes that prioritize the interests of the people of the country itself.
“The AIS Forum Summit is an idea and innovation driven by Indonesia. Initially, the idea for the AIS Forum Summit was initiated in 2017 based on the challenges faced by Indonesia as an archipelagic country. “Not only are there issues of climate change, developing the potential of the blue economy, but also issues of connectivity, empowerment of coastal communities and marine pollution,” he concluded.
Furthermore, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) is collaborating with the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemkominfo) to promote this international event. Meanwhile, Wishnutama Kusubandio and Deputy Minister of BUMN, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo were appointed as the Assistance Team tasked with supporting and providing input, consultation and advocacy within the scope of the task of designing and using the AIS Forum 2023 logo, media and communications.
Director General (Dirjen) of Information and Public Communication (IKP) Kominfo Usman Kansong said that Indonesia is trusted to organize some of the largest international forums in the world, this shows the world’s trust in Indonesia’s leadership, including the 2023 AIS Forum Summit.
“With this forum, it is hoped that heads of island and island states will attend and to date there have been dozens of heads of state who have confirmed they will attend the AIS Forum Summit,” said Usman.
The Ministry of Communication and Information will support the implementation of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum 2023 High Level Conference/Summit by providing a Media Center with standards to facilitate journalists in national and international events.
“We are preparing the infrastructure. “Then we hope that by October 8 it will be ready,” he said.
