Jayapura city government prepares location for VCO industries
The Jayapura city government, Papua, is preparing a location for establishing several industries of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and creative palm leaf rib in Skow Sae Village, Muara Tami Sub-district, to meet the local demand.
Head of Jayapura citys Industry, Trade, and Cooperatives Robert Awi stated here on Thursday that the village neighboring the border region of the Republic of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea had acreage of palm trees that can provide raw materials to support the industries.
“In 2016, we have selected Skow Sae as a village to set up several industries of VCO, creative palm leaf rib, and sago processing,” he noted.
Awi remarked that preparations to establish these industries had been completed, for instance, by providing training and supporting facilities to the local communities for the development of human resources.
“This year, we have trained some 200 businessmen and given supporting facilities to 25 business groups included in Skow Sae village,” he pointed out.
Awi said sago processing was being viewed as a promising business opportunity since the region was a well-known sago producer.
Sago can be processed into a variety of food products as it is consumed locally.
“The demand for sago products is quite high, and Jayapura District supplies the stock, so we will make Skouw Sae village a sago manufacturing center to meet the needs of the local community in Jayapura,” he added.
