Jakarta, CIDISS – The number of drug users in Indonesia by the end of 2015 reached 5.9 million people, this number drastically increased when earlier in the month June 2015 the number of drug users is only 4.9 million people. This was stated by the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in early 2016 in Banyuwangi, East Java. He even declared for the ASEAN region, Indonesia is the largest market share for drug sales, while the country’s largest drug importer is China and Thailand.

Even worse, there are also a number of security forces from the military-police who were caught involved in drug abuse. As is known, as many as 146 personnel living in the Housing Strategic Reserve Command, Tanah Kusir, South Jakarta undergo a urine test that was held by Tim Yonintel Kostrad and Pom Kostrad and Asintel Kakostrad in mid February 2016 ago. The result is eight soldiers allegedly involved in drug abuse. Moreover, in these operations five police personnel also secured. In fact, this drug attacks also spread among the state officials who have the authority to deal with strategic problems of the nation and the state. How can it be an example for the public and determine policies for the benefit of society and the state when under the influence of drugs.

Naturally, the current Government of Joko Widodo claimed the war on drugs. Because of the spread and drug abuse has been massive and attack strategic components such as the country’s security forces to state officials in both the legislative and executive level. Such conditions also need to watch out as a modern war or a proxy war. Because the drug can be used as the main weapon to paralyze a nation’s strength. Therefore, the spread of drugs in Indonesia should be eradicated from the path including the backing and distribution network to embed the awareness in all elements of society in order to stay away from drugs by providing an understanding of the dangers of drug abuse.

Therefore, the government’s measures to combat drug abuse in drug wary as a form of proxy war, need to have the full support of all elements of society. In this case the government would also need to improve coordination between agencies as well as early detection efforts to prevent the early spread of drugs in the Homeland.
