Police Deparment of Indonesia has called Indonesia is the capital of terrorism in Southeast Asia, pointing to the Indonesian Islamic Group (NII) as one of the regions first groups to spread radical propaganda and to terrorist organization Jamaah Islamiyah (JI).
Jakarta Police Chief, Tito Karnavian said these groups had thousands of followers in Indonesia, and many had been arrested. These fact if we compare with those terorist groups from Singapore, Malaysia, Phillipines, and Sri Lanka.
According to Tito, Muslim countries should lead the cooperation against radicalism to be able to overcome these groups. The public should also assist the government in identifying newly formed networks. An IT system to report radical group activity would be a good mechanism, he said further.
Terrorist movement will always intend to build their Muslim Country as they believe the most pure country, based on the movement of Islamic State.
They are spreading their believe from the social media which facilitate to communicate from different place arround the world. Moreover Indonesia is one of the active citizens which using internet and social media at every places.
To anticipate the spread of radicalism, officer needs to tighten the detention system. In this case, most of the radical group members that were arrested in Poso, Central Sulawesi were moved to Java and the other places, since its prison didn’t have a special treatment for radicals. It will be dangerous to put the members together there, since they would be able to consolidate.
Santoso (The most wanted terrorism) suspecthad been previously captured in a robbery case in Palu, Central Sulawesi, and sentenced to three years of imprisonment. But since there had been no special treatment for him, he had been released, and now led the East Indonesia Mujahiddin terrorist network in Poso.
Beside that, the detainers which has released from prison could spread their radicalism believes and rejoin their old link. This occacions make police department has been struggling to tied them up. But in the another side, the transfer of prisoners to Java will cut their connections with other radical groups.
