BANDUNG – Communication Lecturer of Padjadjaran University (Unpad) Bandung, Achmad Abdul Basith, said that the media and the community have a vital role in national and regional development amid the rapid technological development.

Simultaneously the media also developed with the increasingly modern technology, one of which is social media.

“One thing from the media’s current role in development that is very important is how to provide education not just the entertainment or news function, because the media can be a source of reference for the public to obtain information that is actual, reliable, and verifiable,” Abdul Basith said in special dialogue in the Soreang Area, Bandung, Wednesday (11/27/2019).

According to Basith the political euphoria of the Presidential Election is over, so there is no longer a name zero one or zero two. Furthermore, what will be the programs of President Joko Widodo’s and Kyai Ma’ruf Amin’s Government for the next five years besides infrastructure are human resources (HR).

By carrying out the development on the quality of human resources, according to the Deputy Chairperson of the Bandung Ansor GP, it is hoped that Indonesia in the next five years will also be better than the economic, social and political sectors.

“What Pa Jokowi has done five years ago and in the future needs to be supported
media to maximize its function. Not only as a disseminator of information, the mass media must develop optimism in society.
Because only with this optimistic spirit, Indonesia is sure to be better, “he said.

In the same place, senior journalist Wan Abbas added that technological advances directly affected the public interest in the mass media.

If in the 1980s, the media searched for sources of news directly to the field accurately, then conveyed it to the public. Conversely, at this time the public is competing with the media to broadcast events that occur through social media.

“Seeing this the media and the public in order to remain aware of what is conveyed through social media is not hoax or hoax. Instead the media also need to check and re-check so that it does not become part of it,” said Wan Abbas.

Still according to the former journalist People’s Mind, by not spreading hoaks is part of the role of the community and the media in supporting national development in the next five years.

Moreover, said Wan Abbas, Infrastructure development has been carried out by both the Central and Regional Governments which should be supported.

“For infrastructure in West Java, for example, the Cisumdawu toll road and others will benefit the community in the future,” he said.
