CIDISS – Lately, the people of Indonesia are crowded discussing the discourse of the moving the Capital of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to the region. One of them is in the Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan province.
Actually, the discourse of the moving of the capital city government from Jakarta to Palangka Raya has been triggered since the era of President Sukarno when establishing the city of Palangka Raya. However, till today, Sukarno’s idea has not yet implemented.
Until today, the government is reviewing the areas that deserve to be the capital of government. Besides Palangka Raya, there are four other cities that will be used as an alternative to the capital and spreading across the island of Borneo and Sulawesi.
Head of Urban Region Development Center of Region Infrastructure Development Agency (BPIW) Ministry of Public Works and People’s Housing (PUPR), Agusta Sinulingga said the government has proposed five cities for review of the discourse of the moving the capital of the Republic of Indonesia (RI).
The 5 cities are Palangka Raya, Balikpapan, Samarinda, Palu, and Mamuju. By looking from the location, Palangka Raya City is very strategic, because it is in the middle.
“If we look from the map, from Aceh to Papua, the location of Palangkaraya is in the middle and this is very profitable,” said Agusta during a coordination meeting with the Government of Palangkaraya City, Tuesday (15/08/2017).
In addition, the advantage, Palangka Raya has a very large area, flat area and no earthquake. “If the problem is far from the sea and does not have a port, it can pass Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan,” he said.
