Derawan Island threaten to be lost
Because of “Abrasion”, the helipad and Volley ball field in Derawan Island has been lost
CIDISS – Derawan Island is one of tourism icon in Borneo Island, especially in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. But, the Island is threatened by Abrasion of sea waves.
The abrasion of the Island has reported to government, but there have no significant action from government to stop the abrasion. Moreover, abrasion keep decrease the large of the island, and today left only 34 hectare.
As the top of tourism icon in Berau, government needs to take action soon to safe the Island from abrasion. If there is not serious action to tackle the abrasion, it will make the Derawan Island lost of the map.
Andhika a citizen of Tanjung Redeb as in Samarinda Pos stated that venue of volley ball field was far of the coastal beach. Resort building and helipad were there, but now it wasn’t there.
Based on the information, during 1967 – 1968, the large of Derawan Island is 44.7 Hectare. Today, Derawan Island only has 34 hectare.
Regarding to the case, Berau regent, Muharram explained that his party needs deep survey to look for the appropriate action.
At least by the survey, his party will have formula and theory to stop the abrasion. He assumed that not all abrasion can be stop by the same way, but need to suit with the area characteristic.
