Development of IKN Development in the Era of Prabowo-Gibran Government Achieves Positive Notes
The development project of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) continues to show significant progress and attracts public attention. With an achievement of 96% for Phase 1 as of December 2024, this step reflects the government’s seriousness in realizing the grand vision of creating a new, modern and sustainable center of government.
Under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, collaboration with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has given a positive touch to the acceleration of this project. It is hoped that the IKN can be a symbol of Indonesia’s progress in the future. With momentum like this, it is only right that the community also supports this project so that it can be completed on time and provide optimal benefits for all.
Acting Deputy for Facilities and Infrastructure of the IKN Authority, Danis H. Sumadilaga, said that several key projects such as the Coordinating Ministry Office Buildings 1 to 4 are in the final stages of work with an average progress of above 90%. Data from the IKN Authority shows that the construction of the IKN, which includes 109 packages from the APBN over the past four years, has achieved an overall progress of 61.7%. The first stage of development is the government’s main focus to ensure that the Core Government Center Area (KIPP) can function according to target.
In addition, the State Secretariat Ministry Building and the Vice Presidential Palace showed varying progress, ranging from 24% to 96%. This condition illustrates the challenges faced in the field, but also underlines the importance of efficiency and collaboration between related parties to ensure all targets are met on schedule.
In addition to the construction of government buildings, other iconic projects such as the state mosque have also received attention. With a progress achievement of 40%, this project is targeted for completion in June 2025. This mosque is expected to be a symbol of spirituality as well as a center for modern community activities. Not only that, several new projects such as the Basilica and the Inti Church will begin immediately after the auction process is completed. The presence of these facilities reflects the government’s commitment to making the IKN an inclusive city that reflects the diversity of cultures and religions in Indonesia.
Special Staff of the Head of the IKN Authority for Public Communication, Troy Pantouw, explained that the IKN was designed as the “home of Indonesia.” This means that development is not only focused on physical infrastructure, but also on human, environmental, and cultural development. With this holistic approach, the IKN is expected to become a model for the development of a future city that is sustainable and harmonious with the environment.
The development of the IKN is also inseparable from the support of large investments. Deputy for Financing and Investment of the IKN Authority, Agung Wicaksono, stated that the involvement of investors, both from within and outside the country, is the key to sustainable development. The plan for the ninth stage groundbreaking which will be carried out early next year adds to the list of positive achievements of this project. With an investment value of IDR 6.5 trillion, this project includes the construction of mixed-use facilities such as residential areas, office space, five-star hotels, and commercial centers.
Several countries such as Malaysia and Japan have shown their commitment through investment in strategic sectors. In fact, the construction of state universities in the IKN has begun to attract the attention of academics. This shows that the government is not only building infrastructure, but also preparing a highly competitive education and economic ecosystem. This ninth stage groundbreaking completes the previous eight stages which have involved a total investment of up to IDR 58.4 trillion.
Currently, the development of the IKN is a long journey full of challenges but also full of hope. Optimism towards this project reflects a shared determination to create a better Indonesia. With solid collaboration and continued support, the IKN can be proof that Indonesia is capable of presenting major breakthroughs amidst increasingly tight global competition.
Although the achievements of IKN development are very promising, there are challenges that still need to be watched out for. Starting from the completion of projects that are still pending to potential obstacles in human resource management and logistics, all elements must work together so as not to hinder the progress that has been achieved. In addition, the sustainability of this project is highly dependent on political, economic, and social stability in Indonesia.
IKN is not just an ambitious project, but also a representation of the nation’s big dream. Its success will be real proof that Indonesia is capable of building a future city that is not only modern but also environmentally friendly and sustainable.
