The government continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to accelerating the development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan, which is designed as a city of the future. This major project marks a major transformation in governance and urban development, with a focus on sustainability and innovation.
Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, emphasized the importance of accelerating infrastructure development to support the progress of the IKN. In the 2025 budget, the government has allocated IDR 6.3 trillion for road construction as a top priority. This step aims to ensure that investors who have shown interest can immediately see the readiness of supporting facilities in the area.
Road infrastructure is an important element in this development plan, not only to improve connectivity but also as a basis for developing other facilities. The roads built will be equipped with various supporting infrastructure, such as water pipes, gas, electricity cables, and fiber optics.
The government also applies the concept of multi-utility tunnel (MUT) to maximize the efficiency of the use of this infrastructure. This approach reflects the seriousness of the government in building a modern and environmentally friendly city, and provides confidence to investors to be more actively involved in this project.
Significant transformation is seen in Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency, which is the location of the IKN Core Government Center Area (KIPP). From an area previously dominated by Industrial Plantation Forests (HTI), this area is now starting to resemble a metropolitan city with towering modern infrastructure.
One of the most striking developments is the construction of flats (rusun) for state civil servants (ASN), which has reached more than 91 percent completion. This project includes the construction of 47 towers of flats designed to accommodate ASN and various other parties related to the operation of the IKN.
Director General of Housing, Iwan Suprijanto, stated that all parties involved in the construction of these flats, including contractors and consultants, are asked to continue to commit to completing the project on schedule. Although the ASN transfer schedule was postponed, the flats that are almost finished have begun to be utilized by various parties.
The flats project is divided into six work packages to ensure more focused and measurable work. Each package includes the construction of flats for various needs, from ASN, Paspampres, to Polri and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
In addition to the six main packages, construction of nine additional towers has also begun. The Director of Rumah Susun, Aswin Grandiarto Sukahar, explained that these additional towers will include housing for various purposes, including dormitories for soccer athletes, modular housing for TNI personnel, and vertical housing for state needs.
This development shows that IKN is designed as a multifunctional city that can accommodate various needs, from government to sports and security. This step emphasizes the government’s vision to make IKN an innovative and inclusive city of the future.
The government’s main focus in the development of the IKN is to create a future-oriented and environmentally friendly city. Every infrastructure built is designed to be able to meet the needs of the community in the long term.
The concept of sustainability is a core value in every stage of development, ensuring that the IKN can be a model for the development of other cities in Indonesia. The government hopes that the presence of the IKN will create an ecosystem that supports economic growth, technological innovation, and public welfare.
Basuki Hadimuljono emphasized the importance of accelerating infrastructure development to create a real positive impact for society and the business world. Meanwhile, Iwan Suprijanto highlighted the strategic role of flats as one of the important elements in supporting the operation of the IKN.
On the other hand, Aswin Grandiarto Sukahar, emphasized the importance of housing diversification to meet the various needs that arise in the area. These three figures showed strong synergy between various government institutions in ensuring the success of the IKN project.
The central government also provides full support through significant budget allocation and direct supervision of development progress. On the other hand, collaboration between local governments and stakeholders is an important factor in ensuring that each target can be achieved.
With a comprehensive and measured approach, the government is optimistic that the IKN will become a symbol of Indonesia’s progress in the eyes of the world. In addition, the presence of the IKN is expected to be able to encourage local economic growth in East Kalimantan, create jobs, and improve the quality of life of the community.
The IKN project is not just a capital city relocation, but also a representation of the government’s grand vision to create a city that is able to answer global challenges. With careful planning and measurable implementation, the government is committed to presenting a city that is not only the center of government but also a center of innovation and sustainability. This step is real evidence of the government’s dedication to building a better future for the nation and state.
The synergy between all parties reflects how serious the government is in realizing the IKN as a city of the future. With an integrated approach and a focus on results, the government ensures that every element of development runs according to plan.
All these efforts are made to ensure that the IKN becomes a model for modern, inclusive, and sustainable city development, as well as a symbol of Indonesia’s progress in the global era.
