Government Keeps Fuel Prices Stable Amid Global Turbulence, National Figures Urge Public to Stay Calm

Jakarta — The government has decided not to raise fuel prices (BBM) despite mounting global pressure on energy prices. This policy has been widely appreciated as a strategic move to maintain national economic stability and protect people’s purchasing power.

Several national figures have voiced their support for the decision. Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo, praised the administration of Prabowo Subianto for keeping fuel prices unchanged, even as global crude oil prices continue to rise due to geopolitical conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

“I know the war between Russia and Ukraine is not over, the Israel–Palestine conflict remains unresolved, and now the Israel–U.S. tensions with Iran are adding to global uncertainty, making all countries struggle to cope,” Jokowi said.

He went on to commend the government’s ability to maintain domestic fuel prices.

“However, our government under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership has still managed to keep prices under control. Imagine, other countries have raised prices by 40–60 percent, while we have not. Pertalite remains at Rp10,000, and Pertamax is around Rp12,400–Rp12,500—still unchanged,” he added.

Jokowi described the decision as a bold and carefully calculated move.

“In my view, this is a courageous decision, one made with detailed and thorough calculations. That courage has led him (Prabowo) to maintain prices until today, despite the risks to the state budget. We hope the government can continue to withstand rising global oil prices, especially since it’s unclear when these conflicts will end,” he said.

Similarly, Yenny Wahid, daughter of Indonesia’s 4th President Abdurrahman Wahid, also expressed her appreciation for the government’s policy.

“I appreciate the government’s step, especially President Prabowo’s statement that fuel prices will not be increased,” Yenny said.

She emphasized that fuel prices have a direct impact on household expenses, particularly basic necessities.

“This is very significant for us because it greatly affects the prices of essential goods and daily needs, especially kitchen necessities,” she explained.

The policy is also seen as providing room for businesses to continue operating and maintaining the momentum of national economic recovery. The government has affirmed that it will continue to monitor global developments closely and remains ready to take adaptive measures if necessary.
