JAKARTA – The development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan is concrete evidence of President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to creating equitable development throughout Indonesia.

The IKN, which will be the new center of government, is designed to distribute development more evenly to various regions in the country.

The second phase of IKN development has been planned for the period 2025-2029, demonstrating the long-term vision of the government under President Prabowo’s leadership.

According to Laura, the Main Expert of the Presidential Communications Office, the main objective of the IKN development is to create better living facilities for the community, while also realizing an environmentally friendly city with a higher quality of life.

“The vision is to build a more competitive Indonesia and create a more equitable social life,” said Laura.

He also added that IKN was designed as a green city with extensive green open spaces, providing a real example of sustainable transformation in Indonesia.

Not only functioning as a new center of government, the IKN is also expected to be a driving force for economic equality throughout Indonesia. Sarman Simanjorang, Head of the Inter-Institutional Relations Division of the Indonesian Employers Association, assessed that the development of the IKN will accelerate the distribution of economic development to various regions.

“This development shows that development is no longer centered in Java, but has reached all corners of the country,” said Buchari, General Chair of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association.

With modern infrastructure and a green city concept, IKN is expected to be an example of sustainable development that can be adopted by other regions in Indonesia.

In addition, the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), emphasized that President Prabowo is determined to accelerate the process of developing the IKN.

“The goal is that in the next four to five years, the IKN can be fully operational as a new center of government. This is what President Prabowo hopes for,” AHY explained.

He also emphasized the importance of accelerating the development of facilities and infrastructure such as legislative and judicial buildings, and supporting facilities for officials and State Civil Apparatus (ASN) who will serve there.

“This not only includes offices, but also housing facilities for ASN and residents who will start operating the IKN in the future,” added AHY.[*]
