Bali – Organizing the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum High Level Conference (KTT) in Bali on 10-11 October 2023 is one indicator of efforts to realize Indonesia as a strong maritime country.

“AlS Forum was formed to strengthen Indonesia’s leadership in international forums. “Holding the 2023 AlS Forum Summit is Indonesia’s commitment to becoming a superior maritime nation,” said Deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Jodi Mahardi.

According to him, there are other indicators, namely economic transformation through industrial downstreaming. Downstream policy encourages industrialization based on high added value commodities towards a more complex economic structure.

In line with this, the Head of the AIS Forum Secretariat, Riny Modaso, said that currently island and archipelago countries are facing the same problems in the maritime sector, one of which is climate change.

“Island and island countries generally face the same problems when faced with maritime issues. “One example is climate change which causes sea levels to rise,” said Riny.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s representative at the Research and Development Conference (AIS R&D Conference) Alexander Muhammad Khan believes this event is an opportunity to find a solution to the climate problems experienced by many parties.

“The AIS Forum is an opportunity for island and island countries to find joint solutions to overcome climate change,” said Alexander.

Alexander, who is also a researcher at Padjadjaran University, said that the presence of the AIS Forum is very important because island and archipelagic countries are currently facing the real enemy of climate change.

“I see that with this forum, the struggle of island and island countries to face this problem can become more structured, sharp and no longer sporadic,” he added.

Regarding the arrival of the AIS Summit delegation to Bali, Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Anggiat Napitupulu, said that his party had provided a special channel to support the smooth immigration process at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport for the delegation.

Anggiat added that the most crucial task was when the delegation arrived at the International Arrivals Terminal.

“Arrival alone is crucial, while for departure there are 10 booths with two officers each,” he said.

Meanwhile, the National Police also played a role in securing the holding of this international event.

Head of the Public Relations Task Force for Operation Tribrata Agung, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, said that Operation Tribrata Agung 2023 was held from 8-13 October 2023 in the jurisdiction of the Bali Police, where thousands of personnel were deployed, consisting of 1,863 Police Headquarters personnel and 2,220 Bali Police personnel.

“This operation prioritizes preemptive and preventive activities supported by law enforcement, cyber, Interpol and public relations in the context of maintaining security and social order to ensure security during the implementation of the AIS Summit,” Ramadhan told the media. []
