Appreciating Security Forces for Successfully Guarding the Regional Elections Safely and Peacefully

Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) are an important momentum in the democratic life of a nation. In this democratic process, the people are given the opportunity to determine their leaders through a free and fair election process. A successful Pilkada is not only determined by the enthusiasm of the people in exercising their right to vote, but also by the security guarantees created so that the election process runs smoothly, without any disruption or riots. In this context, the success of the security forces in overseeing the Pilkada safely and peacefully is a great achievement that deserves to be appreciated.
Security forces, consisting of the National Police, the National Armed Forces, and various elements of local government and volunteers, play a very vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the Pilkada. Their duties are not only limited to physical security at polling stations, but also include early detection of potential disturbances, handling emergency situations, and educating the public to maintain order and peace.
The Head of Public Relations of the Indonesian National Police, Level II of the Indonesian National Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Saptono Erlangga Waskitoroso, said that the regional elections are an important moment in democracy, but often cause social polarization that can affect regional stability. Therefore, his party emphasized to all elements of society to maintain conduciveness after the implementation of the regional elections.
One of the greatest successes of the security forces is in maintaining a conducive situation amidst the high political dynamics. In many regions, the regional elections often become an arena for tight competition between candidates, which can cause political tension. However, the security forces, with their professionalism and high alertness, managed to reduce the potential for riots or friction between supporters that could trigger tension. By prioritizing the principle of caution and good communication between the authorities and the community, they were able to create a safe and peaceful atmosphere throughout the series of regional elections.
Of course, this success did not happen by chance. Many preparations were made by the security forces long before the day of the Pilkada. Security training and simulations are important to ensure their readiness in facing various situations that may arise. In addition, solid coordination between the Police, TNI, and other related institutions, such as the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), the General Election Commission (KPU), and local governments, is the main key to creating effective and well-coordinated security.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Dr. Romo HR Muhammad Syafi’i, said that his party gave appreciation to the security forces and related parties for participating in the implementation of a safe and peaceful Pilkada. His party also praised the Police who continued to oversee the election process and were able to encourage and create a conducive social climate in the country.
One of the supporting factors for the success of security forces in overseeing the Pilkada safely and peacefully is the existence of intense communication with the community. The police and TNI are not only present as security forces, but also as friends and partners for the community. They are often involved in socialization and education activities for residents about the importance of maintaining peace during the Pilkada. In addition, they also educate the community to continue to actively participate in the election process by using their voting rights wisely, without being provoked by issues that could trigger riots. Through this humanist approach, the security forces have succeeded in building harmonious relationships with the community, thus creating a more stable and secure situation.
Deputy Chief of Operation Cooling System Nusantara, Brigadier General Pol. Yuyun Yudhantara explained that the main challenge in overseeing the 2 major elections in 2024 is the problem of polarization in society in various aspects. For this reason, Operation Cooling System Nusantara is directed to prevent polarization in society, by forming task forces through a humanist and persuasive approach. The National Police is grateful to be able to oversee the two major elections in the country, which were followed by the change of national leaders, which took place safely and peacefully.
Ultimately, the success of the security forces in overseeing the safe and peaceful Pilkada not only reflects their professionalism and integrity, but also shows how important their role is in maintaining social and political stability in Indonesia. In an increasingly complex and challenging world, the existence of a reliable security force is one of the main pillars for the continuation of a healthy democracy. Without effective security, the democratic process can be threatened, and public trust in the election system can be eroded. However, with their success in overseeing the safe and peaceful Pilkada, we are all increasingly convinced that Indonesia has a strong security force that is ready to protect democratic values.
As a society, we must certainly give the highest appreciation to the security forces who have worked hard to achieve a safe and peaceful Pilkada. Without them, the implementation of a successful Pilkada like this would not have been realized. Therefore, let us support them by continuing to maintain peace, avoiding provocation, and actively participating in a healthy democratic process. Our appreciation and support for the security forces is a form of appreciation for their extraordinary dedication in maintaining the integrity of the nation.
