Firm Without Compromise, Government Determined to Eradicate Online Gambling in Indonesia

Jakarta – Eradicating online gambling is a top priority for the Indonesian government. In a cabinet meeting held on 6/11/2024, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of no protection for online gamblers.

“There is no collusion or protection for online gambling perpetrators. Cooperation across ministries and institutions is very important to solve this problem,” said President Prabowo.

This firm step by the government has received full support from various parties who consider this effort to be very important to protect the community, especially the most vulnerable.

Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo), Meutya Hafid, emphasized that the fight against online gambling is a long-term effort that must continue to be fought for.

“The fight against online gambling is a long-term effort, not a momentary or time-limited operation. The President emphasized that small communities are often victims so the state needs to pay special attention. The government’s commitment is not only to take temporary measures, but also to build a stronger system to eradicate online gambling,” Meutya explained.

Andy Nugroho, Advisor from Advisors Alliance Group Indonesia, emphasized that online gambling not only damages finances but also has the potential to give rise to the seeds of crime.

“Online gambling has the potential to give rise to the seeds of crime, because many are trapped in debt due to addiction. Full support for the government’s efforts to continue to strengthen law enforcement to break the chain of online gambling circulation must be ignited by all levels of society,” said Andy.

Lecturer of Media and Cultural Studies at the Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya, Radius Setiyawan, also expressed his support for the government’s policy to eradicate online gambling.

Radius appreciates the government’s steps in arresting online gambling perpetrators and emphasizes the importance of more effective law enforcement.

“I think this is commendable. The government’s action to crack down on online gambling perpetrators shows a strong commitment. However, there must be a greater deterrent effect,” Radius added.

The government, with the support of various ministries and institutions, is committed to continuing to combat online gambling through firm measures. Increasing public awareness of the dangers of online gambling, especially among children and adolescents, is also part of a major effort to protect the future of the nation. The government promises to continue to strengthen law enforcement and improve public education in order to achieve an Indonesia free from the negative impacts of online gambling.
