Government Tightens Security in Jakarta Ahead of Christmas and New Year
Jakarta – The government is committed to maintaining security and order during the 2025 Christmas and New Year (Nataru) celebrations by increasing security throughout Jakarta. This step was taken as an effort to create a sense of security and comfort for residents and tourists who will celebrate special moments with family and loved ones.
Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Aan Suhanan said that his party predicted the potential movement of Indonesian people nationally as many as 110.6 million who would move or travel during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru) holidays.
“Based on the survey, the potential for people to move during the Nataru holiday increased to 110.67 million people. This certainly requires special attention in managing traffic flow,” said Aan.
Aan also said that the survey also revealed that people’s movements were divided into two main categories, namely inter-provincial travel of 19.84 percent or equivalent to 55.86 million people and intra-provincial travel of 19.46 percent or around 54.81 million people.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Khoirudin, said that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) should increase massive alertness during the Nataru moment.
He emphasized the importance of the role of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and the DKI Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in anticipating situational conditions, especially in dealing with the potential for flooding due to high rainfall.
“This (situational condition) has become an experience. Hopefully this experience will be a provision for our friends at Satpol and BPBD,” said Khoirudin
Khoirudin also emphasized the need for cross-sector collaboration through the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (FORKOPIMDA) to anticipate various potential problems ahead of Nataru. He appreciated the synergy that has been established so far and hopes that the cooperation will continue to be strengthened.
“We hope that our FORKOPIMDA, which has worked well together so far, will continue to collaborate to be able to serve Jakarta residents optimally,” he said.
In addition to anticipating floods, Khoirudin emphasized the importance of ensuring security during the Nataru celebrations. According to him, all parties must work hard to create a peaceful, comfortable, and safe atmosphere for the community.
In addition, the Government also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and follow applicable safety protocols, especially in the face of potential increases in traffic volume. The police have also prepared a traffic management strategy to prevent congestion at certain points. {*}
