President Prabowo Committed to Protecting Young Generation from Drug Threat
President Prabowo Subianto has demonstrated his commitment to protecting Indonesia’s young generation from the threat of drugs as part of efforts to realize a Golden Indonesia.
Within the framework of Asta Cita, which is the basis of the government’s program, eradication of narcotics is prioritized as part of legal and bureaucratic reform, especially through the eradication of drugs, gambling, corruption, and smuggling. President Prabowo believes that the younger generation, as the nation’s successors, must be free from the threat of drugs to ensure a bright and highly competitive future for Indonesia.
Real steps in combating drugs are seen from the national operation led by the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit. On Friday, November 1, 2024, the Head of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, in a press conference revealed that the police had succeeded in capturing a large number of narcotics in a joint operation.
“This operation is in accordance with the fourth priority of Asta Cita, which is to close all loopholes for drug smuggling,” said Wahyu.
He added that National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo had instructed all police ranks to intensify their efforts in eradicating drug trafficking in Indonesia, both from the supply and demand side, so that this step could have a wider impact.
In addition to support from the National Police, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) is also strengthening efforts to eradicate narcotics by collaborating with a number of telecommunications service providers (PJT). The Head of BNN RI, Marthinus Hukom, in a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding in Lido, West Java, stated that this collaboration allows BNN to utilize communication technology in detecting and eradicating drug trafficking.
“In this digital era, cooperation with telecommunications service providers is a very important strategy. Technology plays a big role in detecting and tracing narcotics crimes,” Marthinus explained.
He added that the memorandum of understanding includes data exchange, intelligence support, and human resource capacity building in this field.
According to Marthinus, this collaboration is part of a national effort to realize one of the main points of President Prabowo’s Asta Cita, namely strengthening legal reform and taking firm action against drug violations and other crimes.
“With the support of technology, we can carry out early detection and disseminate information about the dangers of drugs to the wider community,” he said.
In the same vein, the Network Director of PT Telekomunikasi Seluler, Indra Mardiatna, emphasized that communication data has strategic potential to support comprehensive eradication of narcotics.
“This cooperation not only strengthens national security, but also supports the achievement of the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045,” concluded Indra.
