Rehabilitation Institutions Become Priority for Drug Eradication in President Prabowo Era
JAKARTA – The government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has made eradicating narcotics the sixth priority in 17 main programs. This step shows the government’s seriousness in overcoming the threat of narcotics which is considered very damaging to the nation. The Coordinator of the Expert Group of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Ahwil Luthan, emphasized that the war on narcotics is an asymmetrical battle that requires an integrated and sustainable strategy.
“The war on drugs is a hidden war with invisible enemies. We can be destroyed suddenly if we do not face it seriously,” said Ahwil.
He said the government’s approach includes prevention education, rehabilitation, and strict law enforcement to break the chain of drug distribution in Indonesia.
President Prabowo has emphasized the importance of rehabilitation for victims of drug abuse.
Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto, explained that rehabilitation is a solution that is in accordance with the law, especially to overcome overcapacity in correctional institutions (prisons).
“Those who must be punished are the perpetrators of the drug network, while victims of abuse must be given rehabilitation so that they do not become a burden in prison,” said Agus.
President Prabowo, Agus continued, is very concerned about the safety of Indonesian citizens from the threat of narcotics. He encouraged cooperation between the BNN and the National Police to provide comprehensive handling, both in terms of prevention and rehabilitation, to prevent more victims among the younger generation.
One of the concrete steps in this rehabilitation effort is also seen from the inauguration of the Drug rehabilitation institution owned by the Yayasan Generasi Muda Bernilai (Gemuni) in Pekanbaru, Riau, by the Director of Drug Investigation of the Riau Police, Senior Commissioner Manang Soebeti. This rehabilitation institution, which can accommodate up to 60 patients, was opened to accommodate addicts who want to undergo recovery.
Kombes Manang explained that this institution is important in preventing ongoing drug abuse and as a manifestation of the President’s instructions regarding the eradication of drugs.
“This is our real effort in preventing the spread of drugs by providing rehabilitation services that are easily accessible to the community,” Manang emphasized
.
He also invited the entire community, including rehabilitation patients, to support President Prabowo’s government program in maintaining order and security, especially ahead of the 2024 Pilkada.
With a comprehensive approach between education, rehabilitation, and law enforcement, President Prabowo’s government is determined to protect Indonesia from the threat of drugs. It is hoped that these comprehensive steps can have a significant impact in reducing drug dependence and preventing the young generation of Indonesia from falling into the dangers of drug abuse.
