JAKARTA — The government has shown a strong commitment to eradicating drugs in order to create a healthier and more competitive generation of Indonesians.

Under President Prabowo Subianto, drug eradication has become a top priority in the grand vision for Golden Indonesia, which focuses on legal reform, security, and protecting the younger generation from the threat of narcotics.

President Prabowo emphasized the importance of eradicating drugs as part of the Asta Cita strategy, which includes legal and bureaucratic reform, especially in eradicating drugs, gambling, corruption and smuggling.

According to him, protecting the younger generation from the dangers of drugs is very important to ensure a bright and competitive future for Indonesia.

“The young generation is a national asset that must be free from the threat of narcotics,” he stressed.

Support for the vision of the eighth President of the Republic of Indonesia can also be seen from the intensive cooperation between the BNN, the National Police, and various related institutions in carrying out joint operations.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, stated that the joint operation on November 1, 2024 succeeded in securing a large amount of narcotics.

“This operation is in accordance with the fourth priority of Asta Cita, which is to close all loopholes for drug smuggling,” he said.

He added that the Chief of Police has instructed all his staff to be more intensive in eradicating drug trafficking in Indonesia from various sides, both supply and demand, to ensure long-term effects.

In addition to legal action, the drug eradication strategy initiated by President Prabowo also takes into account social and educational aspects.

BNN Expert Group Coordinator, Ahwil Luthan, assessed that the war against drugs is asymmetrical and requires a comprehensive approach.

He mentioned the importance of early education as an effective preventive measure, by strengthening the family as the main fortress.

“Strengthening anti-drug education at the school level is very important, starting from elementary school to college,” he explained.

Ahwil also emphasized that drug handling must be strengthened in border areas prone to smuggling.

International collaboration is needed to disrupt smuggling networks that often originate from the Golden Triangle region.

“A comprehensive approach between education, eradication, and rehabilitation is needed to significantly reduce drugs in Indonesia,” he concluded.

With solid steps and full support from the community, President Prabowo hopes that Indonesia can create a healthy and safe environment for future generations.
