Papua — The government continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to accelerating development in Papua through various National Strategic Projects (PSN) aimed at driving economic growth and improving public welfare. One of the key projects currently in focus is the construction of a fertilizer plant in Fakfak Regency, which has entered the final stage of administrative preparation before construction begins.
Prabowo Subianto has given serious attention to accelerating the project as part of the national industrial downstreaming agenda. The development is expected to strengthen national food security while improving fertilizer distribution efficiency, particularly in Eastern Indonesia. With its large production capacity, the plant is projected to have a significant impact on the agricultural sector.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that the project is not merely an economic investment but also a reflection of the government’s responsibility to ensure equitable development.
“The PSN development in Fakfak is not just an industrial project, but also an effort to deliver economic justice and open up opportunities for prosperity for the people of Papua,” he stated.
At the regional level, full support has also been demonstrated by Fakfak Regent Samaun Dahlan, who affirmed the readiness of the local government to meet all administrative and technical requirements. He stressed that the regional government will remain proactive in overseeing the acceleration of the project.
“We are ready to fulfill all administrative and technical requirements to expedite the realization of this fertilizer plant development,” he said.
Meanwhile, the rice self-sufficiency program implemented by the local government has shown positive results. Head of the Papua Food Crops, Horticulture, and Food Agency, Lunanka V.M.L. Daimboa, stated that increased agricultural production has contributed to a rise in the Farmers’ Terms of Trade (NTP), reflecting improved farmer welfare.
“Increased production will directly contribute to improving farmers’ welfare,” she explained. Data from Statistics Indonesia also indicates an upward trend in NTP in Papua, signaling stronger purchasing power within the agricultural sector.
Support for accelerating development has also come from regional leaders, including Deiyai Regent Melkius Mote, who reaffirmed his commitment to supporting all government programs, particularly PSN initiatives.
“We are fully committed to supporting every development program for the progress of Papua,” he stated.
With strong collaboration between the central government, regional authorities, and the community, Papua’s development through PSN is expected to create inclusive and sustainable economic growth, while strengthening Papua’s role as a key pillar of national development.
