CIDISS – Creativity and innovation of people in making a handicraft need to get any appreciation. People of Central Kalimantan province succeed in making handicraft from coconut, starting from wood till coconut shell.
Kapuas regency, people has succeeded in making mortar which is made from coconut tree stem. A handicraft is made by people has economic that made by people of Ray 9 Handil Sampurna RT3, Basungkai village, Basarang district, Kapuas Regency.
Recently, the village has many people who work in making mortar, using machine. It is very effective, only five minutes; one mortar has been ready for sell. Some of them are still using manual technique, i.e chisel.
The mortar is made from old stem coconut tree and also Cempedak (tree similar with jackfruit). One stem of coconut is bought for only IDR 150.000. The mortar has sold to other regions, such as Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, till in East Kalimantan. In central Kalimantan, it sells to some regencies and city.
Meanwhile, in Seruyan regency, a handicraft has used coconut shell as material. One of the groups is, centre of handicraft Kartika Bhakti village, Seruyan Hilir timur district.
In there, the coconut shell is created to be many kinds of products, such key holder with many kind of fish, teapot and motorcycle miniature.
Created coconut shell become many kinds of handicraft product, it will give economic value for people.
