Knitting Unity After the 2024 Regional Elections: Time to Focus on Development
JAKARTA – After the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections, the spirit of unity was once again echoed by various parties. This moment is a reminder that democracy is not only about contestation, but also about the courage to accept the results with a mature and responsible attitude. The call to forge togetherness in a society that was once polarized emerged from national figures who emphasized the importance of uniting for mutual progress.
The Head of the East Java Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PWM), Sukadiono, said that the smoothness and calmness during the Pilkada were real evidence of the capabilities of various parties in creating a conducive climate. He emphasized that respecting the people’s choice and accepting the results of the Pilkada with an open attitude is part of the spirit of statesmanship.
“A generous attitude is very necessary. Pilkada is a system that has been agreed upon together in the administration of the state. There should be no hostility due to differences in political views. Differences are natural and must be addressed wisely,” said Sukadiono.
He also reminded that currently there are no more candidate pairs’ serial numbers, but rather one united society. “All are united again together to contribute to building a better East Java,” he added.
In Bandung, Regent Dadang Supriatna also called for unity among the people who previously might have been divided due to differences in political choices. According to him, democracy must be understood as a healthy process, where differences are not a reason for division.
“Differences in choice are normal in democracy. However, it should not cause hostility or division in society,” Dadang stressed.
He appealed to all elements of society, including supporters of regional head candidates, to respect each other and leave behind the differences that occurred during the campaign period. Dadang also asked the public not to be easily provoked by parties who want to divide unity.
“We invite the community to refocus on togetherness and a peaceful, quality social life, and towards shared prosperity,” he concluded.
A similar sentiment was conveyed by Member of Commission D of the Jakarta DPRD, Hardiyanto Kenneth, who highlighted the importance of collaboration for the progress of the Capital City after the Pilkada. Kenneth emphasized that the people of Jakarta have a strategic role in supporting development programs.
“The regional election is a democratic party. We all have to be sporty, ready to win and ready to lose. Don’t make the regional election an arena for hostility,” said Kenneth.
He invited the community to join hands again, without any barriers or disputes. “It’s time to work together for the progress of Jakarta. All elements of society have an important role to actively contribute to development,” he added.
National figures continue to invite the community to unite again after the 2024 Pilkada. This underlines the importance of togetherness in building a better future. By leaving behind the political differences that occurred during the Pilkada, the community is expected to be able to focus on joint efforts to improve welfare and progress in various sectors.
A healthy democratic life is not only measured by the smooth election process, but also by the ability of society to reunite afterwards. Now is the time for all parties to join hands for a brighter future. [*]
