Jakarta – The government has postponed the inauguration of regional heads resulting from the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections until March 2025. This decision was taken to respect the ongoing dispute resolution process for election results at the Constitutional Court (MK).

Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Dede Yusuf, said that the inauguration of the elected regional heads and deputy regional heads in the 2024 Pilkada would be postponed from February to March 2025. Thus, the inauguration will be held after all stages are completed, including the PHPU process.

“This means that the Constitutional Court wants the inauguration to take place after everyone has gone through the stages and is inaugurated simultaneously so that it is no longer done one by one like before,” said Dede.

Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, confirmed the news. The inauguration was postponed because the Constitutional Court will complete all PHPU cases from the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections on March 13, 2025.

“And the Constitutional Court will only issue a letter stating that there are no disputes to all elected governors and mayors after the PHPU is completed at the Constitutional Court,” said Rifqinizamy.

The Coordinator of the Technical Division of the Riau KPU, Nahrawi, said that the inauguration of regional heads will be carried out after March 13, 2025, waiting for the completion of the entire dispute process at the Constitutional Court. Even so, the authority for inauguration is not the domain of the KPU, but the government.

“There has been no directive regarding the inauguration, because the inauguration is the domain of the government. The MK stage, ideally after March 13,” said Nahrawi.

It should be noted that the postponement of this inauguration is regulated in Presidential Regulation Number 80 of 2024 concerning the Procedures for the Inauguration of Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents, and Mayors and Deputy Mayors.

With this delay, the government plans to issue a new Presidential Regulation to adjust the inauguration schedule. The government hopes that all legal processes can be completed properly, so that the elected regional heads can be inaugurated simultaneously and their legitimacy is not in doubt.

This step also shows the government’s commitment to upholding the legal process and democracy in Indonesia. The public is also expected to understand and support this decision in order to create a legitimate regional government in accordance with democratic principles.
