Prabowo’s Support for the 2024 Pilkada Candidate Pair: Political Rights of the Party’s General Chairperson
Jakarta – The open support given by Prabowo Subianto, General Chairman of the Gerindra Party, to the candidate pair for governor and deputy governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi and Taj Yasin, has received public attention. In his invitation delivered through social media, Prabowo expressed his belief that these two figures are the right choice to lead Central Java, as well as supporting the development agenda outlined by the government.
This support was conveyed through an upload on Ahmad Luthfi’s Instagram account on Saturday (11/9/2024), which was then followed by various positive comments from residents. According to the Head of the Presidential Communications Office, Hasan Nasbi, the invitation was a form of Prabowo’s political rights as the General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party who is responsible for the recommendations of regional head candidates supported by his party.
“Mr. Prabowo is the party’s general chairman. As the party’s general chairman, he signs recommendations for regional head candidates. The candidates recommended by Mr. Prabowo’s party are of course candidates that he also supports,” Hasan explained.
Prabowo, in the uploaded video, emphasized his commitment to accelerate economic development in Indonesia, including Central Java. He expressed the importance of support from local governments to realize an Indonesia free from corruption and embezzlement. In this context, Prabowo believes that Ahmad Luthfi and Taj Yasin are a pair capable of bringing Central Java to progress by utilizing their experience in the government sector.
This support then received a response from the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, who considered that in the world of politics, it is very natural for each candidate to ask for support from various parties, including Prabowo. He also said that other candidates who want to get support from Prabowo are also welcome, as long as it is in order to boost the electoral of each candidate pair.
“If it’s support, everyone is allowed to ask for support, as guests, it’s impossible not to be accepted,” said Budi Gunawan.
As figures who have long served in Central Java, both Ahmad Luthfi, former Central Java Police Chief, and Taj Yasin, former Deputy Governor of Central Java, are considered by Prabowo to have sufficient experience to lead this province. “I believe they will be a very suitable team and will work together with me at the center. We will be a good team, the team in the regions and the team at the center,” said Prabowo.
With this invitation, Prabowo invited the people of Central Java to give their votes to the Luthfi-Taj Yasin pair, in order to create a strong team to drive the progress of the province and Indonesia as a whole.
