Regional Election Winners Must Build Togetherness and Knit Unity
Jakarta – After the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada), the elected regional leaders are expected to be able to unite the community that was divided due to political contestation. They must also set aside differences during the campaign period to restore harmony in society.
Malikussaleh University academic, Dr. Yulius Dharma, M.Si, emphasized the importance of prioritizing togetherness for mutual progress. The first step that needs to be taken by the new leader is to embrace all elements, including parties that were previously at odds, in order to create solid cooperation.
“After this contest, let’s unite again. The elected mayor must embrace all parties to build a better Lhokseumawe,” said Yulius.
A similar sentiment was expressed by a member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PKS faction, Riyono, who called the Pilkada a momentum to strengthen national unity. Riyono also emphasized the importance of making Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika the basis for every political decision.
“Regional elections are not just about choosing a leader, but an opportunity to strengthen democratic and national values. Leaders who understand national values will be able to lead fairly and wisely,” Riyono stressed.
Banggai Police Chief, AKBP Putu Hendra Binangkari, also highlighted the importance of maintaining security stability and unity after the determination of the Pilkada results. He appealed to the public to avoid spreading hoaxes, SARA issues, or provocative content that could trigger conflict.
“Hoaxes and provocations can damage harmony in society. Let’s maintain harmony and trust the legal process to the authorities. The public should not take the law into their own hands and prioritize resolving conflicts through legal channels,” said Putu.
Post-election, elected regional leaders are expected to immediately take concrete steps to unite the community. This includes embracing political opponents and building communication with various elements of society to ensure that the wheels of development run smoothly.
The 2024 Pilkada has become an important learning event for the nation in maintaining democratic values. Now is the time for the community and leaders to work together to build the region and re-establish unity for mutual progress. With unity, national stability can be maintained, and public welfare will be achieved.{}
