Papua’s development is currently gaining stronger and more focused momentum, in line with the government’s commitment to accelerating the realization of National Strategic Projects (PSN) as a key instrument for equitable development. The presence of PSN in Papua is not merely a standard development initiative, but a tangible representation of the state’s commitment to advancing eastern Indonesia so it can stand on par with other regions. With its abundant natural resources, Papua holds great potential to grow into a new center of inclusive and sustainable economic development.
Support for PSN in Papua is crucial, as these projects are designed to deliver direct benefits to public welfare. One concrete example is the construction of a fertilizer plant in Fakfak Regency, which is part of the national industrial downstreaming agenda. This project not only strengthens the industrial sector but also serves as a vital foundation for national food security. With its large production capacity, the plant will help ensure more equitable fertilizer distribution, particularly for farmers in eastern Indonesia, thereby significantly boosting agricultural productivity.
The central government’s commitment to accelerating development is evident in the strong attention given by President Prabowo Subianto, who continues to oversee the project’s realization through to implementation. This reflects Papua’s strategic importance in the long-term national development plan. Support is further reinforced by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, who consistently encourages major investments in Papua to promote economic equality and create job opportunities for local communities. This development is seen as a valuable legacy for future generations who will benefit from it sustainably.
Synergy between central and regional governments plays a key role in ensuring the success of PSN in Papua. Local governments have demonstrated strong commitment in overseeing each stage of development, including ensuring administrative and technical readiness. Fakfak Regent Samaun Dahlan firmly stated that the regional government is fully prepared to support the acceleration of the fertilizer plant project. This support reflects a collective awareness that development is a shared responsibility requiring cross-sector collaboration. Active involvement from local authorities also ensures that development aligns with the needs and aspirations of the local community.
Beyond the industrial sector, development in Papua is also directed toward strengthening agriculture as the backbone of the local economy. The Papua Provincial Government continues to promote rice self-sufficiency programs through strategic measures such as expanding planting areas, optimizing land use, and developing upland rice cultivation. These efforts have shown positive results, reflected in the increasing Farmers’ Terms of Trade (NTP), which indicates improved purchasing power and welfare among farmers. This success demonstrates that development is not solely focused on large-scale projects but also directly addresses the fundamental needs of the community, particularly in agriculture.
The presence of PSN, such as the Fakfak fertilizer plant, is closely linked to strengthening the agricultural sector. With more reliable fertilizer availability and more efficient distribution, farmers in Papua will receive better support to increase their production output. This creates an integrated development ecosystem in which industrial and agricultural sectors work hand in hand to drive sustainable economic growth. Such synergy proves that PSN is designed not only for macroeconomic growth but also to deliver tangible benefits at the grassroots level.
Social stability and harmony in Papua are also being maintained through close cooperation between the government, security forces, and the community. Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri emphasized that cross-sector collaboration is key to creating a conducive environment for development. A human-centered and inclusive approach has strengthened public trust in the ongoing development process. This trust is a critical asset in ensuring that development programs run smoothly and deliver optimal results.
Support for Papua’s development also comes from various regional leaders who are committed to advancing their regions. Deiyai Regent Melkius Mote affirmed his readiness to support all government programs, including PSN, as part of efforts to accelerate development in Papua. This statement reflects the collective spirit of Papuan society in embracing development as an opportunity to improve quality of life and overall welfare.
With the achievements and commitments demonstrated so far, Papua’s development through PSN is moving in a positive and promising direction. Strong collaboration between the central government, regional governments, and the community serves as the main foundation for realizing a developed, self-reliant, and prosperous Papua. Support for PSN is not only participation in a government program but also a shared investment in a brighter future for Papua. In this context, Papua’s development is not merely a national agenda, but a collective movement to ensure social justice and equitable prosperity for all Indonesians, especially the people of Papua.
