10th WWF Ministerial Declaration Promotes Integrated Water Management on Small Islands
BALI — The Minister’s Declaration at the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) highlighted integrated water management on the world’s small islands.
Minister of PUPR, Basuki Hadimuljono explained that one of the important points in implementing the Ministerial Declaration in WWF was regarding the interests of small islands.
Indonesia, as the host of the world-class water forum, raised and encouraged the issue of integrated water resources management on small islands.
Not only that, but this nation also proposed commemorating World Lakes Day, which is a source of water supply to support humans and also has social and economic functions in society.
According to Minister Basuki, commemoration of World Lakes Day is not just symbolic, but is one of the main keys to preserving lakes throughout the world.
“We have to protect lakes to prolong their life, this is the purpose of commemorating World Lakes Day,” said the Daily Chair of the 10th WWF National Organizing Committee.
At the 10th world water forum in Indonesia, Indonesia was able to make history by producing a Ministerial Declaration for the first time.
Basuki Hadimuljono explained that this was Indonesia’s success as the host in compiling a list of water-related projects which were the mainstay of various countries.
“Apart from the Minister’s Declaration, one of the achievements of this forum was Indonesia’s success in compiling a list of water-related projects which are the mainstay of various countries,” he said.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the 10th WWF event in Bali made the delegates very impressed.
In their presentations, quite a few of the world’s delegates admitted that they were very impressed with Indonesia’s progress.
In fact, the President of Fiji stated that he had witnessed firsthand how the country was progressing.
“State leaders who visited Tahura also expressed their admiration for Indonesia’s progress. “The President of Fiji even stated that he wouldn’t believe it if he didn’t witness firsthand Indonesia’s current progress,” said Luhut.
