Acid Attack Case Proceeding in Military Court in Accordance with Law
Jakarta – The acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus continues to attract public attention as the legal process continues transparently and accountably. The handling of this case is guaranteed to comply with applicable legal provisions, including through military court mechanisms if any individuals from the institution are involved.
The Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, stated that the investigation into the acid attack on Andrie Yunus has been transferred to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Military Police (Puspom TNI) after the police uncovered several facts.
“The investigation has been ongoing since receiving a report regarding the legal incident that befell Andrie Yunus. After we have uncovered the facts from the investigation, we can now report to the leadership that we have transferred the case to the TNI Military Police (Puspom TNI),” said Imam.
He explained that the police investigation has not found any civilian involvement in the acid attack on activist and Deputy Coordinator of KontraS Andrie Yunus.
“Up until the handover process, we have not found any civilian involvement,” said Iman.
He also emphasized the police’s commitment to transparent and fact-based law enforcement.
“We will continue to carry out such law enforcement efforts, and every law enforcement action will always be based on legal facts obtained from the investigation process,” he said.
Meanwhile, Selamat Ginting, a political and military analyst at the National University, assessed that the replacement of the Head of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Kabais) following the revelation of the alleged involvement of Bais members in this case demonstrates the TNI’s indiscriminate approach to members who violate the law.
“The TNI is trying to send a message that the institution will not tolerate violations, even if they involve strategic units. Furthermore, this step can also be seen as a preemptive effort to prevent politicization,” Selamat explained.
This series of processes demonstrates that the handling of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus continues to comply with applicable legal provisions. This confirms that every violation is processed procedurally based on legal facts, while also reflecting the commitment of officers and institutions to uphold the law professionally, transparently, and accountably to ensure legal certainty.
