Ahead of Eid, Government Ensures Prices of Staple Goods and Fuel Remain Under Control
Jakarta — The government has ensured that the prices of basic necessities and fuel (BBM) remain stable ahead of the Idulfitri 1447 Hijriah celebrations. This measure aims to maintain people’s purchasing power while ensuring economic activities continue smoothly without excessive inflationary pressure amid rising demand during the homecoming (mudik) period and the long holiday.
The assurance was conveyed after President Prabowo Subianto held a series of intensive meetings with members of the Red and White Cabinet. Firm instructions were directly delivered to ministers to ensure that staple food prices do not increase and that food distribution to all regions runs smoothly.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya revealed that the President led a limited meeting with the main agenda focused on the government’s readiness to face Idulfitri.
“The meeting discussed the stability of supply and prices of basic commodities, the smooth distribution of logistics, as well as the readiness of infrastructure and public services so that people can celebrate Idulfitri safely and comfortably,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
Previously, the President also held a meeting at his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, with a similar agenda. During the meeting, the President specifically highlighted the readiness of LPG and fuel supplies to anticipate a surge in demand during the homecoming travel period.
The government also emphasized that the price of subsidized fuel will not increase until Eid, even though global crude oil prices are currently fluctuating due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
On the ground, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso conducted a surprise inspection at Pasar Baru Kudus in Central Java some time ago. Based on observations at the market, several commodities were still priced below or in line with the government’s Highest Retail Price (HET). Premium rice was recorded at Rp14,900 per kilogram, SPHP rice at Rp12,500 per kilogram, Minyakita cooking oil at Rp15,700 per liter, granulated sugar at Rp17,500 per kilogram, and chicken eggs at Rp30,000 per kilogram.
“Based on our monitoring through the SP2KP system so far, thank God the prices of basic necessities remain under control, supplies are guaranteed, and prices are stable,” said Trade Minister Budi Santoso.
He also urged the public not to panic or make excessive purchases. A similar message was delivered by Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, who appealed to the public to avoid panic buying, considering that the national rice reserve currently reaches around 4 million tons and fuel supplies are said to be sufficient until Eid.
“So the public does not need to panic buy, because that would actually disrupt the food supply chain. The government already has schemes in place to address issues related to prices and the supply of essential commodities,” said the Home Affairs Minister.
Furthermore, Tito also asked the public not to worry too much about Indonesia’s national economic growth rate in 2025, which was recorded at 4.7 percent.
“Last year electricity tariffs were subsidized, but now the prices have returned to stability. Meanwhile, our economic calculations still use subsidized electricity prices,” he said.
During the coordination meeting, the Home Affairs Minister also instructed all governors, regents, and mayors to immediately hold internal meetings to ensure the readiness of food and energy supplies in their respective regions.
