Appreciation for Quick Count in the Implementation of the Regional Election PSU
Jakarta – The implementation of revotes (PSU) for the 2025 regional elections (Pilkada) in several regions has received widespread praise for the successful implementation of quick count methods, which are considered transparent, accurate, and responsive. Several political observers, election organizers, and academics emphasize that quick counts provide a credible initial picture of election results and serve as a tool to strengthen public participation and trust in the democratic process.
The Chairperson of the Papuan People’s Assembly, Nerlince Wamuar Rollo, emphasized that supporters of the candidate pair for Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua, as well as the entire community, must maintain security and peace following the revote (PSU) for the Papua Governor and Deputy Governor Election (Pilgub), which took place on August 6, 2025.
“We entrust all post-PSU processes to the organizers, ensuring they run smoothly and according to regulations. So let’s be patient and pray that everything goes smoothly,” said Nerlince Wamuar.
As part of modern democratic mechanisms, quick counts play a crucial role in expediting information dissemination to the public, minimizing speculation that could fuel political tensions, and strengthening trust in the official results to be announced later. Quick counts also serve as a preventative measure against potential disinformation and one-sided claims that could undermine the legitimacy of the democratic process.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito, appealed to all people in Papua Province to maintain security during the quick count of the revote (PSU) for the Papua Governor Election following the 2024 Constitutional Court ruling. As is known, the PSU will be held simultaneously on Wednesday (06/08/2025) in 9 regencies/cities.
“We urge all residents of Papua Province to maintain security during the recount of the Papua gubernatorial election following the 2024 Constitutional Court ruling,” he said.
In this context, quick counts are expected to be an effective instrument of public oversight, ensuring that every vote count process is within the law and preventing potential abuse or manipulation of the results. Furthermore, a credible quick count will strengthen the legitimacy of the rerun results in the eyes of the public and all contesting parties.
Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Executive Director of the Indonesian Political Indicators Institute, stated that the successful implementation of quick counts is an indicator of the improving quality of local democracy. Transparency in the delivery of preliminary results helps create a conducive political climate and reduces the potential for friction between supporters.
“A professionally conducted quick count is an indicator of democratic progress. This success reflects political maturity and growing public trust in the election process,” he said.
More than simply announcing preliminary results, the quick count in the 2025 revote represents a crucial opportunity to build a tradition of transparency in elections. Through the application of accurate methods, data transparency, and the involvement of independent institutions, this process is expected to be a milestone in strengthening public trust in the implementation of elections in Indonesia. Stakeholders urge all elements of the nation to continue to maintain integrity, participation, and openness to achieve a quality democracy.
