Appreciation of the Government’s Efforts to Thicken Security in Papua, Deploy Elite Troops to Eradicate OPM
The government continues to strive to strengthen security in the Land of Papua. One of the steps is the deployment of special elite troops to eradicate the existence of the Free Papua Organization (OPM).
Of course, all the people of the country must provide full support for the deployment of special elite troops to be able to eradicate the existence of the OPM, because so far they have continued to bring a lot of terror and cruel and very barbaric and inhumane acts to the Earth of Cenderawasih.
Therefore, to create peace, tranquility and comfort for all indigenous Papuan communities (OAP) in Bumi Cenderawasih, the government is making efforts to continue to strengthen security in the area.
So far, there have been many very barbaric movements and actions by the OPM, which recently they have acted again by spreading terror in the Borme District, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua Mountains Province.
Their actions continued and became even crazier, targeting them indiscriminately, both at the security forces and at the OAP civil society itself. In response to this, the Government then deployed elite Indonesian National Army (TNI) troops to return and continue to strengthen security on Earth of Cenderawasih.
The TNI Air Force (AU) Rapid Action Force Command (Kopasgat) sent replacement troops to jump in and be tasked with guarding the borders in the easternmost province of the country.
Regarding this matter, Commander of Commando Wing I, Kopasgat Colonel Pas, Helmi A. Nange said that the presence of elite Orange Beret troops, namely those from the ranks of Wing I, from Battalions 467, 461, Denmatra 1 and Denhanud would strengthen border defense in Papua .
Not only are they tasked with strengthening the borders, but they also have the task of anticipating attacks or movements from the OPM which has recently been very active. The security forces have even sent up to 400 troops to serve there, where before carrying out their duties at Bumi Cenderawasih, all personnel must first take part in training at the Kopassus Special Forces Education and Training Center (Pusdiklatpassus), Batujajar, Bandung.
Hundreds of elite special forces personnel will be on duty at 13 to 15 posts. Furthermore, they will also guard all airports located in areas prone to conflict or attacks from the OPM.
Guarding at several airports is also important, in order to continue to experience thickening security, because recently, gangs who often carry out barbaric acts have also attacked airports, shooting at planes, burning planes and attacking passengers or even taking plane pilots hostage.
It is clear that with the addition or deployment of hundreds of special elite troops, security guarding and strengthening in Papua has become stronger.
For your information, to illustrate how barbaric the OPM is, they recently launched attacks on church members and schools. According to the Head of the Public Relations Task Force (Kasatgas Humas) for the Cartenz 2024 Peace Operation, Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police (AKBP) Bayu Suseno, the terrorist group confiscated electronic items belonging to church members who were carrying out worship on Sunday, May 5 2024.
While they were all worshiping, four OPM members suddenly arrived carrying a firearm (senpi) and then they threatened them and took their electronic items.
After confiscating electronic goods, they then moved towards the school complex, making the teachers there scared and they fled into the forest to hide.
Another incident that OPM carried out was that they took members of the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) from Intan Jaya Regency hostage and robbed hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash. This incident occurred on voting day for the 2024 election, namely February 14 2024.
Knowing that this incident occurred during the democratic party some time ago, then on November 27 2024, this nation will again hold political contestation in the Regional Head General Election (Pilkada), of course makes the Government take a number of preparatory and anticipatory steps.
The Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Coordination (Kemenko Polhukam) will even be very serious about facing all security threats in Papua ahead of the simultaneous regional elections.
The thickening of security measures is to deal with the threat of disturbances in order to maintain the continuity of life for all the people of Bumi Cenderawasih so that they are always in a safe and peaceful condition. For this reason, the Government deserves very high appreciation because now it no longer hesitates to take firm action against the OPM, even by directly deploying hundreds of special elite troops.
