Asta Cita and Service Commitment for Worker Welfare
By: Bara Winatha*)
Efforts to achieve the welfare of workers and the wider community continue to be a primary concern of the government through various strategic programs integrated into the Asta Cita vision. This approach focuses not only on economic growth but also emphasizes equal access to financial services, labor protection, and strengthening public purchasing power. The state acts not only as a regulator but also as a facilitator, ensuring that every policy is implemented effectively and addresses the real needs of the community, especially workers.
The Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, stated that protecting workers’ rights is the main foundation for building worker welfare. He stated that holiday allowances are a normative right that must be fulfilled by every company without exception. In his view, fulfilling this right is not merely an administrative obligation but also a form of respect for workers’ contributions to maintaining national economic productivity.
He explained that the practice of withholding or delaying holiday allowance payments cannot be justified for any reason, including the company’s financial condition. The government has established a sanction mechanism in the form of fines to ensure compliance. In addition, supervision through complaint posts and field inspections is a concrete step in ensuring that regulations are implemented according to regulations.
Furthermore, worker protection must be viewed holistically, not only in terms of wages, but also in terms of social security, job security, and a decent working environment. The state plays an active role in ensuring that industrial relations are fair and balanced between workers and employers.
Commitment to worker welfare is also strengthened through support from the financial sector in maintaining economic stability. Hery Gunardi, President Director of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, stated that his company continues to play an active role in supporting government programs oriented towards improving welfare. He stated that the distribution of Temporary Direct Cash Assistance for People’s Welfare is a crucial instrument in maintaining people’s purchasing power amidst economic dynamics.
The success of social assistance distribution depends heavily on the readiness of service infrastructure. With an extensive network extending to remote areas, BRI ensures that the community, including workers and their families, can access assistance quickly and effectively. This is seen as a concrete manifestation of the banking sector’s contribution to supporting the national development agenda.
In addition to distributing social assistance, Hery also highlighted the importance of access to financing for the community as an effort to increase economic independence. The distribution of People’s Business Credit (Kredit Usaha Rakyat) is one of the flagship programs that opens opportunities for small business owners, including workers who want to improve their standard of living through productive activities. With inclusive financing support, the economic transformation of the community can proceed more quickly and equitably.
Meanwhile, some time ago, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between fulfilling workers’ rights and a stable investment climate. He stated that workers have the right to fight for their interests, but this must be done while still considering sustainable economic growth. A conducive investment climate is a crucial factor in creating new jobs.
Therefore, collaboration between workers, the government, and the business world is needed to create a mutually supportive environment. Communication and social dialogue are key to constructively resolving various labor issues. He also highlighted the role of the downstreaming program currently being promoted by the government as a strategic opportunity to increase labor absorption. By processing natural resources domestically, economic added value can increase while opening more job opportunities for the community.
From a broader perspective, Asta Cita serves as the main framework for integrating these various policies. This vision emphasizes the importance of inclusive development, where every level of society has equal opportunities to thrive. For workers, this means guaranteed rights protection, access to public services, and broader economic opportunities.
Furthermore, firm employment policies that protect workers’ rights reflect the state’s commitment to creating social justice. Synergy between various parties is a key element in the successful implementation of Asta Cita. This collaboration ensures that each program is effective and has a real impact on society.
Furthermore, the active participation of workers and the community is also a crucial factor in the success of development. Awareness of their rights and obligations, as well as involvement in the development process, will strengthen workers’ position as key actors in the national economy. With various ongoing efforts, Asta Cita serves not only as a long-term vision but also as a concrete guide for every development step.
A commitment to inclusive services, strong protection, and economic empowerment is the foundation for creating sustainable worker welfare. Through continuously strengthened synergy and consistent commitment from all stakeholders, the hope of creating a more decent life for workers is increasingly clear. Asta Cita symbolizes a shared determination to build a more just and prosperous Indonesia. Workers are an integral part of development and are continuously protected, empowered, and given the opportunity to develop optimally.
