Jakarta – Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro, has reminded the public not to be easily swayed by issues circulating on social media. According to him, provocation and hoaxes are often used to stir up tension in situations like this. His warning comes ahead of the planned demonstration on August 28.

“We urge the public not to fall for hoaxes and provocations on social media. Keep the demonstration peaceful—don’t let any party exploit this moment for their own interests,” he said.

He explained that this warning is based on common patterns in large-scale mass actions, where certain groups try to take advantage of the situation by spreading inciting narratives. False information or misleading calls to action can trigger anarchic behavior and clashes, posing a threat to public safety.

“Therefore, we urge the public to rely on official information from trusted sources and refrain from spreading unverified news,” he added.

In addition to avoiding provocation, authorities have advised demonstrators to maintain order by not damaging public facilities, blocking roads, or disrupting public activities.

“Aspirations will be heard as long as they are expressed peacefully and in accordance with the law. All parties are expected to help create a conducive situation that does not harm the public interest,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, in response to the planned August 28 protest, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated that the public is welcome to demonstrate—as long as it remains orderly and safe.

“We have a Public Aspiration Body to accommodate concerns, complaints, and to listen to people’s aspirations as well as explain the reasons behind certain policies,” said Puan.

She added that the DPR is also ready to discuss other issues raised by the public.

“Questions that haven’t been addressed openly—we are ready to discuss them together,” she concluded.

Separately, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi also urged the public to exercise restraint regarding demonstrations that have the potential to spread to other regions.

He stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere for the sake of smooth economic activity and public life.

According to him, regional stability is key to ensuring that national development proceeds without disruption, so that its benefits can be directly felt by the people.

“With a spirit of unity, the government is committed to maintaining national stability,” he affirmed.
