Balinese Community Joint Alliance Rejects Foreign-Funded People’s Water Forum
Denpasar, Bali (21/5) – The Bali Community Alliance firmly rejects the implementation of the People’s Water Forum (PWF) which is intended to rival the official World Water Forum (WWF) event. The PWF itself is planned to be held from 20 to 23 May 2024. In an official statement, the Bali Community Joint Alliance stated that the PWF activities were also not in line with the Bali Governor’s Appeal and were full of foreign interests. For this reason, it can be concluded that PWF disrupts public order and is not in line with local values.
According to Gus Yadi, Coordinator of Mass Organizations, Pecalang and Communities who are part of the Bali Community Joint Alliance, the presence of PWF is a form of unwanted foreign interference, and could endanger the sovereignty and order of the Balinese people. “We emphasize that we will not allow foreign agendas to disturb peace and harmony in Bali,” stressed the spokesperson.
The Balinese Community Joint Alliance also highlighted that the PWF does not reflect the true aspirations or needs of the Balinese people. Thus, they emphasized that the existence of such a forum would not be accepted among local communities.
In this context, the Bali Community Joint Alliance asked the local government to follow up on their rejection of the PWF. They emphasized that the government must side with the voices of the Balinese people and refrain from accepting foreign agendas that do not suit local interests.
This official statement closed with an appeal to all Balinese people to unite and reject all forms of foreign interference that could disturb peace and order on this island. The Balinese Community Joint Alliance reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the integrity and sustainability of Balinese society which is based on local values and rich culture.
