Bawaslu Strengthens Procedures for Resolving 2024 Regional Election Disputes

The General Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) continues to strengthen procedures for resolving disputes in the implementation of the Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) in November 2024.

Bawaslu continues to make efforts to strengthen procedures for resolving disputes in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections by establishing coordination and further increasing the effectiveness of handling.

So that if there is a dispute or violation in the 2024 Regional Election, the Election Supervisory Body will have strong resolution procedures so that it can end any potential bad things happening.

Chairman of the North Jakarta Bawaslu, Johan Bahdi, revealed that synergy between the legal division and also resolving disputes with other divisions is very important to ensure integrity and transparency in all election processes and stages.

All parties must work together to face existing challenges and further maintain public trust. Therefore, the Election Supervisory Body itself continues to strive to increase the capacity and competence of all its members, including the Panwascam (District Supervisory Committee) in carrying out all their duties.

Meanwhile, North Jakarta Bawaslu Legal and Dispute Resolution Division Coordinator, Yapto Sendra, said that this activity was a strategic step to equalize perceptions and steps in handling disputes and violations that might occur.

The Election Supervisory Body really wants to ensure that every case is handled quickly and efficiently in accordance with the regulations in force in Indonesia.

Therefore, having accurate data and information in efforts to handle violations is very important in revealing alleged violations in the upcoming Regional Head Election.

By having accurate data, election supervisors can take appropriate and effective steps in dealing with any violations that occur. Data is a necessity for Bawaslu in carrying out action and resolving disputes.

In the process of handling violations in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Election itself, it is important that there is mediation and transparency when dealing with resolving election disputes, because this is the key to handling alleged violations.

To further strengthen steps in strengthening understanding of all supervisory committees, they should be able to understand the mechanisms in the regulations for resolving disputes between regional election participants in accordance with their authority.

For example, in resolving disputes between Regional Head Election participants at the sub-district level, it is based on the principle of appropriate and simple procedures by the Panwascam after obtaining a mandate from the Regency Bawaslu at the scene and can be requested by the campaign team or campaign implementer who has been officially registered with the KPU Regency.

There are also other steps, such as facilitation and simulation activities which will be able to increase knowledge and skills in communication and carry out a joint mediation process with the disputing parties to resolve problems within a limited time.

The flow of dispute resolution between participants in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Election begins with the request of participants who feel they have lost and then continues with an examination that brings together the various parties to the dispute. The mediation and deliberation process took place as well as decision making.

Not only by receiving knowledge in the form of theory in an effort to resolve disputes between Pilkada participants, but supervisors also carry out simulations related to how the event dispute resolution mechanism is appropriate as a form of understanding and provision for duty.

Having a simulation of dispute resolution between participants in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Election is very important as a provision in anticipating potential disputes that occur during the campaign period and being able to resolve disputes directly at the scene.

Not only in Jakarta, West Lombok Bawaslu (Lobar) also held outreach on efforts to resolve disputes between Pilkada participants to all Panwascam as a form of step to strengthen the committee’s understanding.

Commissioner for the Law and Dispute Resolution Division of West Lombok Bawaslu, Hesty Rahayu, explained that the socialization they carried out was a form of space to equalize perceptions of handling patterns related to resolving dispute problems.

Not only that, but also at the same time being able to further increase the committee’s knowledge and skills in communication by carrying out a joint mediation process with the disputing parties to resolve problems within a limited time.

Moreover, it is not only related to disputes between participants, but also how the capacity and capability of the committee to be able to oversee the stages of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections will also improve.

Because, if it is related to the Regional Head Election, then in fact all committee parties have a demand to be able to resolve all disputes quickly and must be completed.

Strengthening procedures for resolving disputes in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Election (Pilkada) from the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) is very important, because this will further minimize the possibility of violations occurring, or if there are any, they can be resolved quickly.
