Jakarta- Melanesia rejects membership in the organization led by Benny Wenda, the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP).
This shows the failure of Benny Wanda, who has been trying to gain full membership in the Melanesian Spearhead Group which includes the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
“The efforts made by Benny Wenda and his group in the international world are very disturbing for the Republic of Indonesia, but the solution for Papua is now clear, from a historical perspective. The improvement of Papua is also very concerned and its implementation is progressing well. “Therefore, Benny Wenda’s efforts will have no impact on Papua,” said the Chairman of the Papua Deliberative Body, Willem Frans Ansanai in a national webinar regarding Benny Wenda’s efforts failed at the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Summit via the YouTube channel, Moya Institute.
In the MSG Summit forum, the Indonesian Delegation chose to walk out because Benny Wenda had the opportunity to deliver his speech. This walk out was a form of protest as well as a firm step for Indonesia in diplomatic relations.
“The implementation of the MSG Summit is an extraordinary achievement of Indonesian diplomacy, the presence of ULMWP is like obscurity. “If they were a sovereign state, they should have people, territory and government, but what was taken all belonged to the Republic of Indonesia so it has no basis for the formation of a state.” Willem said
Likewise, observer of strategic and global issues, Prof. Ambassador Imron Cotan, said that most of the news on social media about Papua does not match the reality on the ground.
“Benny Wenda and ULMWP do not represent the majority of people in Papua, because the seven major tribes there are not represented at all by Benny. “At the UN session last year, one of the youth leaders from Benny Wenda village actually raised the Red and White flag in New York, saying that the Republic of Indonesia included Papua,” said Imron.
The Papua issue in the MSG group of countries has seen a paradigm shift, they are starting to be wary of Indonesia as a big country. In fact, Indonesia is a big and great country because it is under the leadership of President Jokowi. The opposition supporters were completely unable to have any impact, so they tried to approach Indonesia through various other issues that were of concern to the world.
