Beware of Nepal Issues Becoming Provocative in Indonesia
The Haidar Alwi Institute (HAI) reminded all elements of the nation to work together to maintain unity amidst the global political crisis.
This institution believes that Indonesia must learn from the situation in Nepal to avoid experiencing something similar.
The wave of demonstrations in Nepal in the past week turned into a major tragedy.
The action claimed lives, destroyed state buildings, and dragged top political figures into the crisis.
HAI Director, Sandri Rumanama, said that the unrest in Nepal should be a lesson for the Indonesian nation.
“We are both democracies, and per capita incomes are not significantly different, and even the national economic charts are not significantly different. Therefore, we must learn from the situation in Nepal and unite amidst global geopolitical uncertainty,” he said in Jakarta.
Sandri emphasized the need for security forces to be vigilant following the recent unrest in Indonesia.
According to him, early anticipation is important so that the potential for conflict does not develop.
“The government, along with security forces, must prepare for uncertain global conditions. Moreover, we have just experienced a tragedy almost identical to Nepal’s, so a political crisis could potentially arise,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian National Police emphasized that the public should not be provoked by issues circulating on social media.
The Head of Public Information for the Indonesian National Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, emphasized that the public should be wise in responding to chain messages and calls for demonstrations.
“I urge the public to respond to information with clarity. Refer to mass media and journalists who present the facts,” he said.
Trunoyudo emphasized that the media has a strategic role in clarifying issues.
He invited the public to be more selective before believing and spreading information.
“All information must be filtered and its sources verified. Use the mass media as your primary source of information,” he stressed.
Previously, influencer and activist Aalia Mauro also highlighted the demonstrations in Nepal through her X account. She said the demonstrators’ spirit was to fight corruption and promote clean governance. ***
