Beware of Provocations Ahead of Heroes Day
Jakarta – As Indonesia approaches the commemoration of Heroes Day on November 10, the government and various community elements are calling for vigilance against provocations and disinformation that could undermine the spirit of national unity. This historic moment is viewed as an opportunity to strengthen patriotism, mutual cooperation, and social solidarity — values inherited from the nation’s heroes.
Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, emphasized the importance of emulating three core values of the heroes: patience, selfless service, and foresight.
“The patience and perseverance of our heroes are valuable lessons. They were patient in seeking knowledge, patient in facing differences, and patient in waiting for the right moment to fight,” he said.
He added that the heroes never fought for personal gain but dedicated themselves to serving the people after independence was achieved.
According to Saifullah, selfless service is a vital legacy that must be revived so that today’s generation does not fall into individualistic tendencies.
“Our heroes fought not for themselves, but for generations they would never meet. That is the essence of true greatness,” he asserted.
In the same spirit, the Indonesian National Police Retirees Association (PP Polri) reminded that Heroes Day is not merely a ceremonial observance but a moment to reaffirm solidarity and social concern.
Chairman of PP Polri Metro Jaya, Inspector General (Ret.) Mudji Waluyo, stated that helping others is the truest form of heroism.
“Heroes Day is not only about remembering the past, but also about spreading the spirit of service and compassion,” he said.
The spirit of peace and unity ahead of Heroes Day also resonates in various regions. The Palangka Raya City Government noted that modern-day heroes are those who contribute to national progress through innovation and social engagement.
Acting Regional Secretary of Palangka Raya, Arbert Tombak, encouraged people to practice heroism in everyday actions.
“Let us instill the spirit of heroism in every step we take, starting from small acts, for the greater good of society,” he urged.
Meanwhile, in Serdang Bedagai Regency (Sergai), the national theme “My Hero, My Inspiration — Keep Moving Forward to Continue the Struggle” has been translated into real actions to strengthen solidarity and prevent division.
Acting Head of the Sergai Communications and Information Office, Drs. Dimas Kurnianto, SH, MM, M.SP, emphasized that Heroes Day must serve as a reminder to safeguard the legacy of the nation’s struggle amid ideological challenges and provocations.
He also underlined the importance of digital literacy and civic education to build public resilience against divisive narratives.
“Our heroes sacrificed everything for independence. Our duty today is to protect the fruits of their struggle from any threats that seek to undermine unity,” he concluded. #
