Community Figures Urge Residents Not to Be Instigated by OPM Provocations
By: Timothy Gobay)
A number of community leaders continue to appeal to all Papuans not to be incited again by provocation narratives and issues as well as propaganda from the Free Papua Organization (OPM) in order to jointly maintain regional conduciveness in Puncak Jaya.
The appeal from community leaders followed clashes and riots in Puncak Jaya some time ago, resulting in the situation and conditions of security and order (kamtibmas) being disturbed or unstable.
It turns out that the root of the riots was none other than the impact of narratives and provocation issues as well as propaganda that OPM continued to put out to incite the public to become their sympathizers and act in accordance with what the separatist gangs wanted, namely destroying local security stability. .
However, fortunately, thanks to the hard work of the security forces, joint personnel of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), now the situation which was once very heated and tense in Puncak Jaya has returned to being conducive.
Therefore, even though conduciveness has now occurred, what is more important is the efforts of all elements of society to be able to unite and work together to maintain the stability of security and order (kamtibmas) so that things that are detrimental to many parties do not happen again.
Head of Information for the Military Regional Command (Kapendam)
This conduciveness cannot be separated from the success of the joint operation of the Infantry Battalion Task Force (Satgas Yonif) RK 753/AVT/Elang IV Task Force and Mandala IV Task Force on July 16 2024 which was able to take very firm action against 3 OPM members in Karubate Village, Mulia, Puncak Jaya.
After their identities were revealed, it turned out that the three people who were successfully crushed by the security forces were members of the Free Papua Organization led by Teranus Enumbi, which has been known to be very sadistic in carrying out various barbaric actions, such as violence against civilians and officers.
It’s not enough to stop there, but the security forces have also succeeded in returning Puncak Jaya’s conduciveness to normal by being alert and tightening security around the location to anticipate possible follow-up attacks and protect all Indigenous Papuan (OAP) civilians.
Security forces, whether from the ranks of the TNI or Polri, have the task of continuing to maintain the stability of security and order in society (kamtibmas) as well as protecting and serving citizens. Apart from that, it guarantees firm and fair law enforcement, especially for OPM.
Meanwhile, Papuan Traditional Leader, Herman Yoku, strongly condemned the series of barbaric and despicable actions by terrorist groups enemies of the country who never stop spreading many provocative narratives and issues and containing propaganda to the public, thus triggering riots.
OPM continues to commit many violations of the law and human rights (HAM) by killing OAP civilians. But sadly, they carried out this barbaric act under the pretext of fighting for Papuan independence.
In fact, in fact, the entire Indigenous Papuan (OAP) community itself has been very comfortable, peaceful and prosperous living under the auspices of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) so far and does not want any division or riots at all.
The separatist gang from the region nicknamed Bumi Cenderawasih has deceived the people with all forms of provocation and propaganda so that the people follow their wishes, namely attacking the government and security forces, even though in fact the Papuan people really love peace.
Very firmly, Papuan traditional leaders called on the OPM to immediately end all their barbaric and cruel actions so far, because they have actually caused a lot of harm to fellow Papuans.
Furthermore, it is very important for the entire community to continue to maintain regional stability and conduciveness that has been taking place in Puncak Jaya. In this way, it is not impossible that Papua will become safer, more developed and more developed.
Likewise, Papuan Youth Leader, Ali Kabiay, strongly condemned the provocation and propaganda that OPM had intensified against the community, resulting in such riots in Puncak Jaya.
The riots that occurred caused many losses to all parties, especially to Bumi Cenderawasih itself. Therefore, the community should be able to work together and solidly fully support the efforts of the security forces in upholding law and peace in Papua by taking action against the OPM and continuing to maintain conduciveness.
Don’t let residents be incited again by narratives and issues of provocation and propaganda carried out by OPM because it will be very detrimental to all parties, including further hampering Papua’s progress because the conduciveness there is unstable.
