Demonstrations Should Not Be Anarchic, Express Aspirations Responsibly
Jakarta – Deputy Chairperson of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Aria Bima, urged demonstrators to carry out their protests in a peaceful manner. Aria Bima expressed concern about the possibility of anarchic actions during demonstrations. He called on the public to convey their aspirations responsibly, without disturbing public order or resorting to violence.
Aria Bima requested that protesters conduct their activities in accordance with existing regulations.
“Conduct your demonstrations according to the rules. We hope the atmosphere in this room is connected to our brothers and sisters, the students, who are protesting outside,” said Aria Bima.
At the DPR building, Aria Bima further emphasized,
“Through this honorable forum, we hope that demonstrations convey aspirations in accordance with the rules and the will of the protesters. Do not be anarchic, especially to my brothers and sisters demonstrating in front of the DPR building,” he added.
Speaker of the DPR, Puan Maharani, stated that the DPR openly welcomes input from the public. She mentioned that the DPR also needs public feedback to improve its performance. As a representative institution, the DPR remains open and receptive, but demands that aspirations be expressed in an orderly manner for the sake of the nation’s progress.
“Yes, we will continue to accommodate all aspirations and inputs from the public. We ask for input from all citizens to help improve the DPR’s performance so we can jointly work towards building the nation and state,” said Puan.
Responding to the planned demonstration on August 28, 2025, initiated by various labor unions, the government emphasized that such action is actually unnecessary. The government is currently implementing numerous programs and policies that favor workers’ interests, covering labor protection, welfare improvement, and social security.
Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, acknowledged understanding for the labor groups intending to express their aspirations on August 28.
“As far as I know, on the 28th there will be aspirations from labor friends regarding the Constitutional Court’s decision to remove the labor law from the Omnibus Law,” said Dasco. He confirmed that the DPR respects the Constitutional Court’s ruling but requires time to prepare the necessary legislative revisions. Dasco emphasized that the right to express aspirations is guaranteed by law, yet it must be conducted following legal procedures.
