DOB Hope for the Future for Papua’s Young Generation

211

The expansion of Papua Province through the New Autonomous Region (DOB) is one of the government’s efforts to accelerate development in Papua. The Papua expansion policy is a mandate and implementation of Law Number 2 of 2021 concerning Special Autonomy (Otsus) for Papua, specifically Article 76. The development of new autonomous regions is a golden opportunity to improve prosperity and hope for a better future for the Papuan people, especially the younger generation.

The government continues to strive to accelerate the development of Special Autonomy for Papua in six provinces, namely Papua, West Papua, South Papua, Central Papua, Mountain Papua and Southwest Papua. With ongoing program planning and evaluation, it is hoped that the Special Autonomy Fund that has been budgeted can provide real benefits for communities throughout the Papua region. This also includes infrastructure and government facilities, especially for DOB.

Vice President (Wapres) Ma’ruf Amin said that the government would immediately accelerate the development of government facilities infrastructure for the four new autonomous regions of Papua, namely Central Papua, South Papua, Mountain Papua and Southwest Papua. His party also discussed resolving the Papua Superior Students scholarship problem, and the sustainability of Papua’s development in the future government. Apart from that, the Vice President ensured that the acceleration of development in the Papua region in other sectors was also going well, such as education and transportation.

A positive view regarding the Papua New Zealand was also expressed by the Young Papuan Intellectual, Arman Wakum. He said that the existence of new autonomous regions in Tanah Papua with the addition of four provinces has many opportunities and progress that will be obtained, especially for young people, because it opens up opportunities for work, education, works or creative work, and so on. Previously, maybe the opportunity was there but it was not evenly distributed.

There is a lot of potential in the Land of Papua. With the DOB, it is hoped that many young people will stand up and work there. So, not only in one field but in many fields such as economics, education, culture, tourism, contemporary work, creativity, and so on.

There are lots of Papuan children who have studied either outside Papua, abroad, and so on. When they return, with this DOB they can still work in Papua. They can be recruited and invited by the government to work together to advance their region. Previously, they might have gone to work in another place or area. With the DOB, they can return to their respective ways and work in Papua.

Arman Wakum explained that the existence of new autonomous regions for the survival of young people in Papua can really support the existence of young people in Papua because apart from having many opportunities, there are also many positive things that can be done. The important thing is that Papuan children must have lots of ideas. Not only do you have lots of ideas, but they must be executed. If it’s just an idea that runs out at the level of thought, it seems difficult too.

Collaboration between young people, fellow native Papuans, and friends from other regions or non-Papuans who have good ideas for development and progress in the Land of Papua is very important. Because young Papuans themselves still need the views, ideas and creative work of other people. When idea A can be collaborated with idea B or idea C, the impact will be extraordinary. Sometimes beyond thoughts and expectations. This is also very good for the existence and works of Papuan young people.

Previously, DOB was widely rejected, but the government has knocked the hammer and it has become a reality. So, like it or not, we have to fill the DOB with creative ideas.

Arman Wakum invites all friends, especially young people, young Papuans in Papua, especially young Papuan people, to take advantage of the time they have, while still young, and given good health, to work hard, study hard and study. the good one. We develop creative ideas, especially in any field such as art, dance, songs, music, fashion, food, and so on, to fill our youth so that Papua can progress and develop. Our family name can indirectly be raised immediately. We can be an inspiration for other friends who may not have the same opportunities as us. But with ideas, real work, hard work, discipline, responsibility, positive thinking, and so on, we can achieve our dreams and Papua will be better in the future.

We can learn from anywhere, not only in official institutions such as schools, universities, and so on, but we can learn from society, reading communities, writing communities, and so on. That way, we are enthusiastic about looking forward to a better Papua.

It is very clear that DOB provides significant benefits for the Papuan people. As has been explained, this policy can open up new job opportunities and improve the economy of the people in the area. Papua Special Region is also able to suppress social problems that exist in society, especially related to education and health problems. Therefore, the government and all elements of society must work together to oversee the development of new autonomous regions in a comprehensive manner so that the benefits can also be felt by the younger generation in the future.
