DPR RI Passes the Election Law, Dissemination as Early as Possible is Important for the Public
Jakarta — DPR RI has officially ratified the Election Perppu to become law, so it is very important that socialization to the public be carried out as early as possible.
Not only did it ratify, but the Chairperson of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani also ensured that the 2024 Election would continue according to the applicable schedule.
“The election, God willing, will continue according to the existing schedule, and God willing, it will be held on February 14, 2024,” he said.
With this ratification, Puan also hopes that the implementation of the 2024 elections can run smoothly without divisions.
“We hope that with the passing of Perppu No. 1 as this law, what will we carry out and carry out together ahead of the upcoming 2024 elections,” he said.
“That can run safely, comfortably, happily, happily without then there are divisions with each other in running a democratic party and this law on elections can then be implemented as well as possible,” Puan added.
Previously, during the ratification process, Puan had asked all Plenary Meeting participants whether they agreed with the ratification of the Perppu General Election to become law.
“Can the Bill on the Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) Number 1 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections be approved to become law?” he asked.
Then, all members of the council replied that they had approved the decision.
“Agreed,” said the meeting participants.
It is known, that with the ratification of the Election Law, there have been a number of changes regarding the continuity of the upcoming 2024 Election.
Some of these changes must be known by all parties, including election administrators, election participants, political parties and the wider community.
It is contained in Article 276 of Law no. 7/2017 (Election Law) that the provisions for the duration of the campaign period are shorter, and these rules are binding.
So if, for example, election participants do not know about shortening the campaign period, then they may have the potential to commit violations and be subject to sanctions.
The election campaign schedule was carried out from three days after the determination of the final list of candidates (DCT) for members of the DPR, DPD, DPRD as well as the Presidential and Cawapres Candidates until the start of the cooling off period.
Referring to Article 25 PKPU Election Campaign, since the establishment of political parties as election participants, they are not allowed to campaign at all before their term begins.
Even so, they can still carry out socialization and political education within political parties even by putting up flags with their serial numbers.
Legislative election participants are also still allowed to hold limited meetings, but must be accompanied by written notification to the KPU and Bawaslu at least one day before the implementation of the activity.
