Drug Eradication Supported by Innovation in Advanced Detection Technology

Jakarta – The Indonesian government continues to strengthen its commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking through a modern approach that combines cross-agency coordination and the use of advanced technology. The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polhukam) emphasized that inter-agency cooperation is key to increasing the effectiveness of national drug eradication efforts.

“This drug destruction is a form of transparency to the public, ensuring that prevention and law enforcement efforts are running optimally,” stated Inspector General Asep Jenal Ahmadi, Deputy for Security and Public Order Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, during the destruction of evidence at the PT Djarum Parking Lot, South Kota Bambu, West Jakarta.

The evidence destroyed included 279,408.31 grams of methamphetamine, 313,443.62 grams of marijuana, and 471 ecstasy pills, originating from the uncovering of drug networks in various regions such as Aceh, Jakarta, North Sumatra, and South Sulawesi. A total of 82 suspects were apprehended in the joint operation.

Acting Deputy for Eradication at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Budi Wibowo, stated that this success was due to the solid synergy between the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and local governments.

“This demonstrates the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation in preventing and eradicating the illicit trafficking of narcotics in the country,” he said.

Support from technological innovation has also been a crucial pillar in this success. The BNN and related authorities now rely on artificial intelligence (AI)-based scanning devices, portable drug detectors, and sophisticated monitoring systems with big data and digital mapping to quickly and accurately detect drug distribution flows. These devices are used for baggage screening at airports, ports, and other vulnerable locations, expediting the process of identifying suspicious items without the need for time-consuming manual inspections.

Furthermore, the evidence destruction process utilizes a dual-chamber incinerator with temperatures of up to 1,100°C, capable of completely decomposing narcotics by up to 99.99 percent without polluting the environment. This technology ensures safety, efficiency, and compliance with international environmental standards.

The Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, emphasized that the drug problem is a direct concern of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, H. Prabowo Subianto, and the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

“The President and the National Police Chief have emphasized to all police forces to continue fighting and fully complete the eradication of narcotics,” he said.

Furthermore, efforts are also directed at preventive measures to close all loopholes for drug smuggling and abuse, including through technology-based surveillance on sea, air, and land routes.

With stronger national synergy and the support of advanced detection technology, Indonesia is optimistic that it can suppress illicit drug trafficking and protect the younger generation from the dangers of drugs. The government is fully committed to protecting the nation’s future from increasingly complex narcotics crimes.
