JAKARTA — The 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized his commitment to combating drug trafficking, which is considered a serious threat to public security and welfare.

In the first session of the Red and White Cabinet, the Head of State firmly instructed all law enforcement agencies.

Not excluding the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), the Police, and the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), to focus on eradicating drugs, online gambling, corruption, and smuggling.

“I ask the Attorney General’s Office, the Chief of Police, and the BPKP to focus on handling these major threats – online gambling, drugs, smuggling, and corruption. Strict law enforcement and strong evidence are needed to immediately carry out mitigation,” President Prabowo said.

This directive is part of the government’s steps to create an Indonesia that is free from various forms of crime that harm society.

President Prabowo emphasized that cross-agency cooperation is very important for eradication efforts to run effectively.

According to the BNN Expert Group Coordinator, Ahwil Luthan, the war on drugs is an asymmetric war that requires a comprehensive and sustainable strategy.

“The war on drugs is a hidden war, where enemies and friends are not visible, so it can destroy suddenly,” said Ahwil.

He added that preventive measures through education should be a top priority, with a focus on strengthening the family as the first line of defense.

This effort also involves strict surveillance in border areas and international collaboration to break up drug smuggling networks, many of which originate from the Golden Triangle.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo also supports President Prabowo’s steps in eradicating drugs as part of the Astacita mission designed by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Sigit asked all ranks of the National Police to map drug entry routes and take firm legal action.

“Map the entry routes of narcotics which have become very disturbing and have caused capital outflow,” he said.

The Chief of Police also implemented a reward and punishment system to motivate his staff.

Personnel who successfully uncover major cases will be awarded, while those who fail or are negligent in taking action will be evaluated.

Furthermore, the Chief of Police emphasized the importance of coaching for Polri members involved in drug abuse, including dismissal if the violation is repeated. []
