Efforts to Promote New and Renewable Energy are a Strategic Step towards Energy Self-Sufficiency

Jakarta – The government, along with various stakeholders, has emphasized that accelerating the use of new and renewable energy is a strategic step in achieving national energy self-sufficiency. This effort is not only a long-term agenda but also a primary focus in establishing sustainable and environmentally friendly energy security.

Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara stated that the transition to clean energy must be driven by a younger generation with competencies and innovation in the electricity and renewable energy sectors. He emphasized that new and renewable energy is a crucial foundation for achieving the 2060 net-zero emissions target and promoting energy self-sufficiency.

“As graduates of the younger generation who inherit the knowledge and important values of the national electricity ecosystem, the state hopes to contribute to strengthening energy security and encouraging the creation of clean energy, which will be a pillar of Indonesia’s future,” said Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil.

He explained that Indonesia’s future prosperity will be largely determined by the nation’s ability to produce low-emission energy. He argued that the transition to renewable energy is not only an environmental necessity but also an economic strategy.

“The younger generation will work to produce innovations towards net-zero emissions and energy self-sufficiency,” he stressed.

Furthermore, Suahasil stated that President Prabowo Subianto has made energy security and accelerating the energy transition a national priority. This serves as the foundation for the government to strengthen energy policies oriented toward independence, efficiency, and sustainability.

“Energy self-sufficiency must be achieved through the ability to produce, distribute, and ensure energy is affordable for all people,” he said.

In line with this, legislative support for the energy self-sufficiency agenda was also shown by Member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ramson Siagian, who assessed that the acceleration of the energy transition must be carried out simultaneously with strengthening national energy production so that Indonesia does not depend on imports.

“The national energy issue must be a serious concern. New, renewable energy and energy diversification need to be pushed more strongly to support energy self-sufficiency, which is President Prabowo’s priority,” said Ramson Siagian.

According to him, despite continued efforts to accelerate new and renewable energy, fuel demand remains high, necessitating increased national oil lifting to maintain energy stability. Furthermore, policy synchronization between agencies also needs to be strengthened to ensure effective energy policy implementation and avoid hindering investment.

To maintain consistent national energy sufficiency, Ramson Siagian emphasized that his office will continue to oversee national energy policies, particularly those related to achieving energy self-sufficiency based on new and renewable energy. He emphasized that energy independence is not merely a technical goal, but a symbol of the nation’s economic sovereignty.

With strong collaboration between the government, legislators, and the younger generation, the acceleration of the use of new and renewable energy is expected to become the main driving force in realizing sustainable energy self-sufficiency.
