Eradicating Narcotics Backed by Advanced Detection Technology

Jakarta – The Indonesian government continues to reinforce its commitment to combating drug trafficking through a modern approach that combines cross-agency coordination with the use of advanced technology. The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polhukam) emphasized that inter-institutional cooperation is the key to enhancing the effectiveness of nationwide anti-drug efforts.

“This drug destruction event serves as a form of transparency to the public, showing that prevention and law enforcement efforts are being optimally pursued,” affirmed Inspector General Asep Jenal Ahmadi, Deputy for Security and Public Order Coordination at Kemenko Polhukam, during a drug disposal event held at PT Djarum’s parking lot in Kota Bambu Selatan, West Jakarta.

The destroyed evidence included 279,408.31 grams of methamphetamine, 313,443.62 grams of marijuana, and 471 ecstasy pills, seized from narcotics networks in various regions such as Aceh, DKI Jakarta, North Sumatra, and South Sulawesi. A total of 82 suspects were arrested during joint operations.

Budi Wibowo, Acting Deputy for Eradication at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), noted that this success was largely due to strong synergy between BNN, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and local governments.

“This is clear evidence of the importance of cross-sector collaboration in preventing and combating drug trafficking nationwide,” he said.

Technological innovation has also played a crucial role in these successes. BNN and relevant authorities now rely on scanners powered by artificial intelligence (AI), portable drug detectors, and sophisticated monitoring systems using big data and digital mapping to detect drug distribution routes quickly and accurately. These tools are used at airports, seaports, and other vulnerable points, expediting the identification of suspicious items without the need for time-consuming manual inspections.

Additionally, the destruction of drug evidence now utilizes dual-chamber incinerators capable of reaching temperatures up to 1,100°C, ensuring comprehensive decomposition of narcotics substances up to 99.99% without harming the environment. This technology guarantees safety, efficiency, and compliance with international environmental standards.

East Java Police Public Relations Head, Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, emphasized that narcotics remain a top concern for the President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Prabowo Subianto, and the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

“The President and the Police Chief have instructed all police personnel to continue the fight and maximize efforts in tackling and eradicating narcotics,” he stated.

Furthermore, preventive measures are being prioritized to close all loopholes for drug smuggling and abuse, including through technology-based monitoring of sea, air, and land routes.

With strengthening national synergy and advanced detection technologies, Indonesia remains optimistic about its ability to curb drug trafficking and safeguard its young generation from the dangers of narcotics. The government is fully committed to protecting the nation’s future from the increasingly complex threat of narcotics crime.
