Jakarta’s STIN BIN men’s team won a dramatic victory over Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi in the first series of the final four of the 2023 PLN Mobile Proliga volleyball competition at GOR Tri Dharma Petrokimia Gresik, East Java, Thursday night.

Jasen Nathanael and his friends had to fight up to five sets to win with a tight score of 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 17-15).

STIN BIN even almost lost when in the decisive or fifth set they trailed 11-14. However, Bhayangkara Presisi failed to take advantage of the situation and instead made mistakes so that STIN BIN was able to win four consecutive points to reverse the score to 15-14.

After Bhayangkara Presisi leveled the score at 15-15 through Randy Tamamilang’s smash, STIN BIN added two consecutive points to ensure a 17-15 win through Dimas Saputra’s action.

“This is called lucky, luck. We were behind and almost lost, but we were able to turn the situation around and win,” said Assistant Coach for Jakarta STIN BIN Agoes Jumaidi after the match.

He said his team’s game in the fifth set declined and often made mistakes that benefited the opponent. In addition, the players were also tired so their focus decreased slightly.

“Luckily the opponent also made mistakes and we were able to catch up to win the game,” he added.

Jakarta STIN BIN player Farhan Halim admitted that he did not expect his team to win when the situation was actually on the edge and almost lost.

“Yes, if it’s the fifth set and you’re left behind by a number like that, we can only give up. However, luck turned out to be on our side,” said the national team player.

STIN BIN started the first match of the round of four with high motivation, even though they had lost the opening set. In the next set, they got up and played aggressively to suppress the opponent’s defense to win the second and third sets.

STIN BIN’s game was still aggressive through attacks by Dimas Saputra, Cep Indra, Farhan Halim, Rozalin Panchev, and the tall Isac Santos. However, Bhayangkara Presisi did not want to give up and put up a fight to win the fourth set while forcing the fifth set to be played.

Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi coach Reidel Alfonso Gonzales Toiran said his team’s performance was not good and underperforming so they had to admit STIN BIN’s superiority.

Toiran also seemed unable to hide his disappointment because the victory that was just around the corner had vanished due to his own mistake.

“We will evaluate later, there were many mistakes made by the children, especially in the fifth set,” he said.

Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi Tosser Nizar Julfikar said his team was unlucky because they failed to get a closing point when they were already 14-11 up.

“This is the game and the ball is round. We have played optimally, but there are also mental factors that determine it,” he said.
