Facing the 2026 Eid Homecoming, the Government Strengthens Coordination and Services
Jakarta – The government continues to refine preparations for the 2026 Eid homecoming transportation program by prioritizing strengthening cross-sector coordination and improving the quality of public services. The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has prepared various strategic programs, including free homecoming travel, vehicle roadworthiness inspections, and digital-based terminal optimization to ensure a safer, more orderly, and more comfortable journey for travelers.
Ernita Titis Dewi, Acting Secretary of the Directorate General of Land Transportation, stated that the free homecoming program has been reintroduced because it has proven effective in reducing congestion and helping the community. This year, hundreds of buses are being prepared to serve thousands of travelers to Central Java, East Java, West Java, Yogyakarta, and Sumatra, including new routes.
“Coordination with local governments and operators is key to ensuring a more integrated free homecoming service,” he said.
To ensure safety, the Ministry of Transportation conducts ramp checks, or vehicle roadworthiness inspections, before operating. Vehicles that meet technical and administrative standards are given roadworthy stickers, while vehicles that do not meet these standards are marked and not recommended for operation. This step is part of a safety-based service improvement effort.
On the infrastructure side, the implementation of Terminal on System (TOS) at 115 Type A terminals strengthens data-driven coordination. This system allows for real-time monitoring of periodic testing status, route permits, and vehicle inspection results. Terminals are positioned as the primary hubs for homecoming services, with more orderly and transparent inspection procedures.
The Ministry of Transportation is also optimizing information services through the Mitra Darat app, allowing the public to check the roadworthiness of their vehicles simply by entering their license plate number. Travelers are also advised to monitor weather information, obey traffic signs, and utilize designated rest areas.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Rini Widyantini emphasized that homecoming is not just about mobility, but also a test of public service.
“We are coordinating with the Minister of Transportation to ensure readiness and implement strategies to manage and anticipate the surge in the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H exodus,” said Minister Rini.
According to Minister Rini, the Ministry of Transportation remains the leading transportation sector, while the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform ensures all services meet the principles of fair, responsive, and inclusive public service. The government is committed to providing user-friendly services for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and children.
“No residents will be left behind in the homecoming service,” he stressed.
With increasingly solid coordination and continuously improving service standards, the government is optimistic that the 2026 Eid homecoming will be more orderly, safe, and humane for the entire community.
